badfish03
I want to make some larger jigheads for swimbaits but I really want to keep the weight down. I figure that the baits are heavy enough for casting on their own and I can use conventional jigheads if I need to go deep. Anyone using polymer clays, JB Weld, Durham's, epoxy or other materials to make a lighter weight jighead? Any recommendations on how to make molds for these? jigmeister
If you're aiming at pouring your own try using tin instead of lead . Cabela's sells a lightweight "resin " jighead with a big hook for swimbaits but I wasn't happy with them because the bait tends to roll over on the retrieve due to the light weight (but they look good)..........Jigmeister
badfish03
Was thinking about a lead core with resin or other material overcoat.
Markell
You could use Sculpey clay to make the heads. I played with this stuff a while back for jig head prototypes and once it is baked it is very durable. It comes in several dif. colors and can be sanded. Just keep in mind that if you need any weight at all, it will prabably be too light.
overkill
Make a mold then use a mixture of resin and place smaller fishing weights or birdshot in the portion of the head that will be the lowest. This will keep it swimming upright but have less wieght. You could use smooth-on's casting resins and you can buy sample/starter packs real cheap that have resin and rtv.
