badfish03
Anyone hate the 1 gallon bucket that the Calhoun's Plastic came in as much as I do? Del not knocking it or you especially if it helps keep the price down Anyway did you guys transfer it to a different container and if so what kind? I moved mine into a 2.5 gallon plastic gas can w/pouring spout works pretty good. Its pretty easy to shake up before pouring and with the built in handle and spout its much easier to pour the amount I want into my pyrex measuring cups. Nice thing about them is they are cheap and readily available. Anyone have any other suggestions? Plus I figure when I buy the 5-gallon container I will be able to put a portion of it into the red container for pouring purposes. Delw
Your not knocking me at all, I do it for one simple reason. so teh plastic gets stirred and mixed well rather than shaken and I get 50 phones calls saying the plastic is too soft, or its full of bubbles. open the bucket mix it with egg beaters then dip a coffee cup in it to get the plastic out. Senkosam
I stir it well and divide it up into fuit drink plastic bottles (1.5 liter - HC, Ocean Spray, etc.) They also can be shaken to mix the plastic before heating.
NJFishRGuy
I use a drill-powered paint mixer to stir up the plastic in the one gallon bucket for three minutes, then scoop a quart into a Tupperware-like fruit juice container with a cup right after mixing. This way it's thoroughly mixed, and I can mix it in the smaller container before pouring by tilting it back and forth repeated and shaking lightly. This prevents the bubbles. You could use a larger container but I only pour for myself and friends so the one quart size works OK. Actually, the picture on the Del-Mart web site shows a different type of container, (sort of like an anti-freeze container) and I was really concerned this was new packaging, since I didn't know how I'd stir it then. Sounds like it's still the bucket, which I prefer.
camrynekai
To be honest, I also dislike the shipping bucket....but it would be great for Lurecraft or M-F because their plastic really separates and gets a heavy, almost solid in the bottom and having a bucket to stir it in works well. The Calhoun plastic also separates, but differently......kinda like into two liquids, which makes it easy to mix in a one gallon jug.....All I do is turn the jug over a few times and I'm good to go. With Lure craft you have to beat it to death for many minutes to get it blended and M-F you also have to blend but not nearly as long as Lurecrafts. GB GONE
I hate the bucket also but as Del says...the mixing side is an advantage. i transfer my plastic into a hard plastic "slim" container that is hard plastic (like the ones from Walmart). They are made for your refrigerator. Anyway, you do have to replace the spigot on those as there is a soft plastic that will get eaten up by the plastisol. Every now and then i forget to just turn the container over and I shake it!!! Talk about bubbles, you will get a million...real PITA!!! BuMMeRBaits
Just got in my 1st 5 Gallons of calhouns from DEL 2 days ago, thank's DEL. I hope like you guys say it's easier to mix than the LC, I hate how it seperates with that unbelivable hard stuff on the bottom. With the LC 1 Gallon Bottles I have been trying to turn them at least once a day, let sit normal one day, turn over and sit it upside down the next, turn on side the next day, ect.. seems to help some but not much. Fleury9816
I don?t mind the bucket. I just use a metal soup ladle to scoop out what I need.
Mojo
I buy the 5 gallon buckets from Del. I bought some empty quart bottles from LC (cheap!). I have 5 so I'll fill all 5 at once from the bucket, after using the drill powered paint stirrer first. I haven't had any settling problems yet, maybe because I leave about an inch of airspace at the top of the quart bottle and shake it really good before I use it. Works great. woodsac
I do about what Mojo does. I add my softener and stabilizer to my 5 gallon bucket of Calhoun. Stir for about 4-5 minutes with drill and mixer. Then I transfer to 1 gallon size bottles (also from LC) that have handles. I leave out about 1 cup worth so I have room to mix before pouring. I never shake my plastic up and down. With the 1 gallon jugs, I just shake, or stir, in a circular motion for 10-15 seconds before each use. I have been doing it this exact way for almost 2 years. Even when I bought direct from Calhoun. I have never had a problem with my plastic not mixing. And it's always consistent from 1 batch to the next. Pop
I also bought some gallon jugs from LC. I bought 5 gallon from MF and use a spigot that fits into the top of the bucket. Turn the bucket on its side, put the spigot into the gallon container, turn on and fill up. You can get the spigots from carpet cleaning supply houses as that is how carpet cleaners transfer their soaps and other liquids to gallon jugs.
