overkill
While working on my current swimbait project, something occured to me. Bondo body filler and Bondo fiberglass resin are the same thing. The difference is that the body filler has, well...filler in it. Is this correct? They both use MEK as the catalyst. And the stuff that settles to the top of my body filler looks just like the Fiberglass resin. So if this is true, couldn't they be mixed to creat a perfect consistency? Has anyone tried it? redg8r
pretty much..... Body filler is polyester resin with a carbonate type filler. Although I think most body filler catalysts use benzyl peroxide in a colored cream so you can distinguish a good mixture. havnt tried mixing it, what are you considering a "perfect consistency"? Actually Id like to find some poly resin with a waterlike viscosity so I wouldnt have to chase the bubbles out Id figure the filler helps eliminate some shrinkage since it absorbs some of the heat, but the tradeoff is workability, like household silicone compared to pourable RTV.
