FishnDreams
GDay all, I need some help with paints for spinnerbaits. I'm using powder paint, but the paint chips off if you hit a rock or tree when casting. Would I be better off using a softer paint like vinyl? I dont know much about vinyl paints, can they be used with a airbrush? Thanks Fish"n"Dreams

cadman
I've been pouring plumbers lead (which is very soft) and powder painting jigs for about two years. Sometimes I put three different colors on my jigs, which I bounce on the bottom of rock and shale on the WI. River for walleye and sauger. I do not get chipped paint. Like Triple C said you have to cure the paint by baking it in an oven. The powder paints I use are Protec, Herbie's Magic Dust and some cutom blended paint, all with excellent results. I do not use vinyl paints, only to paint the eyes on the jigs. I find the powder is easier, and with no smell. If you need more info PM me. RgM baits
I been useing powder paint for a couple of years. The first couple of jigs i got to much powder paint on them and they chipped. then I started useing a salt shaker to coat the jigs and it works great, no chips. Powder paint is very tough if it is cured right.
texasbass1
I use vinyl paint but I don't air brush it. I hand paint, there has been a number of posts and it can be air brushed you just have to thin it enough to flow.
FishnDreams
Thanks to all that have posted on this thread. You all help me with my problem. The powder paint once cured is as tuff as nails. Did a run of 200 and cured them for 30min. The finish is 100% better than I have had in the past. We thew them around at first like we would when fishing and the paint didnt chip. Then the hammers came out and we bet then flat, the paint still didnt chip. This site and the people that post on it are a rare find. I and glad to be apart of Tackle Undergound. Thanks to all, you have saved me money and alot of time.
