Slimo
Hi, It's my first post on your board and I'm very happy to be a new member. Does on of you Devcon expert have a trick to coat big Musky plugs with Devcon without making a mess ? By the the time I get to the other side of the 12" lure the epoxy has started to gell and I get an uneven coat. I guess I could make a few batch to coat the lure but I'm wondering if there is a better way. Slimo
musky1
Slimo I use latex rubber gloves to apply the Devcon. I found it's a lot easier to smooth out the devcon with my finger than using the brush. Jim
cheesehead
Slimo are you using the 30 minute stuff? Do NOT use the 5 minute it will turn yellow over time. after I coat mine I heat it up slightly (2-5 seconds) with a heat gun this will thin the epoxy so you can finish brushing it out. This also causes the epoxy to set sooner. I think it even gets harder whenyou heat it but this is just my opinion.
kellure
Might not be the most cost effective way, but I use a larger brush for saltwater lures, which can get pretty big.
blackjack
After you thoroughly mix the Devcon pour it on a chilled paint can lid and you will be able to complete your sealing with one batch. I can seal 20 to 24 3" lures with one batch

Kellure clean your brush with acetone before the devcon sets up and you can re-use them qutie a few times
Slimo
Thank you all , you guys really know your craft! I took a bit of advice from all your answers and here is what I did: I use the bottom of a soda can to mix the epoxy, since the can was full of cold soda it kept the Devcon from reacting to quickly. Then I used a bigger brush and I finally heatgunned the whole thing for a few seconds. The bait looks great! Thanks again. Slimo
overkill
You could use an epoxy that doesn't set so fast, like Envirotek or Flexcoat
