log Posted May 18, 2005 Report Share Posted May 18, 2005 I just got a 5 gallon bucket of Calhouns plastic from Del-Mart and had two questions about it. The first one i'm kinda embarrassed about. #1. Whats the easiest way to get the lid off? Does it come off the same as the one gallon buckets? :oops: #2. How do you guys transfer the plastic into smaller containers? Do you just dump it into the other containers, us a funnel, or do you use something to dip it out with? I don't mind it being time consuming, i just want the cleanest way. Thanks for any help. The lid has a strip that you have to pull off first then you can just pull up at a spot, move a little, pull up, etc until it is open. My four year old said it was adult proofed!!!! I transfer mine with a plain old plastic cup and a funnel into 1 gallon containers. Be careful not to use a cup that has pictures or a color on the outside, the ink (or coloring) will come off in your plastic!!! Delw Posted May 19, 2005 Report Share Posted May 19, 2005 Dont be embaressed, You should have seen me trying to get it off. we had to put those lids on due to the buckets keep getting broke in shipping, it was killing us fed x and the customer. theres a few ways to open the bucket take a razor knife and cut a few slots down then pry it open, get a bucket opener from homedepot one other cool thing we recently found was a small mixer. they are cheap and most paint shops sell them. they fit right in the hole of the 5 gal bucket. and you can use the pour spout. you can also call the manufacturer and they will tell you where they sell them, we are going to buy them in bulk and offer them soon. http://www.squirrelmixer.com/models.html Delw Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The rubber seal on the inside helps keep out any moisture I drill a 1/2" hole in the lid as far away from the pour spout as possible. This lets the plastic pour out smooth with no splashing. After I'm done, I just fit a cork into the hole nice and tight. I've never had a problem with moisture doing this. And I keep my plastic in the garage on the floor all year I have noticed a problem with bubbles after I've transferred to 1 gallon jugs and it's been in them for a while What I started doing was covering the hole of the 1 gallon jug with a piece of saran wrap before I put the lid on. Just take a big ol' piece (way bigger than the lid) and lay it over the opening before you put the lid on.
