AL molds to buy that catch fish.

Recommended Posts

There are so many cool looking molds on the two websites.

Any must haves that catch fish vs sell bait? I'm doing this for my own enjoyment. BTW: I fish alot of creatures TX style.

I'm thinking of the following:

From Bob's

5" Stix Mold

Chunk Mold

4" Creature Mold

5" Z Lizard - does this thing work with it being so bulky?

What about the ZipHog?

What about the 8 Legged Creature?

Thanks much!

I designed the Z-lizard mainly for carolina rig and/or split shot purposes but end up using it texas in the trees a lot. The best fish I heard of being caught on it was 11lbs on some fishing show. The best I've done on it is 5?. Done real well on it in a kind of plum color. it falls real slow with the reaper style tail, and that is how I like to fish it, REAL SLOW.

As for the 8 legged creature, I've knocked the fish dead with it on dropshot and splitshot/mojo rigs.

The other molds you are looking at, with the exception of the Ziphog are pretty standard patterns. I throw the ziphog carolina rigged and it seems to average the same as other creature baits. Lots of tail action, but pour em thin. Good Luck. Z

Thanks for the comments BigZ

Actually the Ziphog looks simular to a YUM creature I like to throw. Only thing with the YUM is it is a little short for a 3/0. It fits but the hook is in a narrower part of the bait.

To date I have never thrown a drop shot rig, and only a little carolina. I don't like not being in contact with the bait with a carolina rig. Would not have that issue with a drop shot. Up here we do not do much finese fishing as our bass are not presured that much.

Given you didn't say any of them are dudes, I might as well get them all as the price is right and see what creations I can make with them.

Thanks.

Anyone one with a must have???

Out here, most of the places we fish are reservoirs with little or no trees, weeds etc in them, nothing but rock, sand and dirt. I rarely ever throw anything over 1/2 oz. The rig I have been using the most lately that seems to catch fish consistently is a 3/8 mojo type weight pegged with a rubber peg-it 18" above a 2/0 owner EWG hook (On 12lb sufix). Not having the bait in contact with the weight lets it have more action underwater and the mojo style weight will crawl through anything you throw it at! I only throw texas in the brush or grass beds if we can find them...most of the time it's just big nasty rocks and that old bullet weight will find it's point between the rocks right now. With a sliding C-rig, you can feel the hits pretty damn good. Maybe I'm just a little too trigger happy on the texas rig when it comes to hooksetting. :(

Yeah, where here we are mostly shallow slop fishermen. Lillypads, coontail, and bullrush.

Most leave the deeper water to the walleye fishermen. I do not fish smallies in lakes that have them much either.

Can see where a carolina rig would work best with rocks.

Thanks again BigZ, it helps to put things in local perspective.
