Need Recipe for "BLUE GHOST" soft plastic

Recommended Posts

Joel is probably thinking what I am. Looks like the Smoke Blue Pearl color from M-F but just like 2 or 3 drops to 8oz....

It is hard to tell without having a bait to look at with the light colors.

What have you tried so far????

If you want to try some of the Smoke Blue Pearl color, let me know. I'll put some in a tube and send it on for you to try!!!

WELL, JIM, I have tried 4 oz plastic to: 3 drops blue pearl,1 drop white/35% salt 1 oz softener... CLOSE but no cigar. Then I messed with more salt...less salt....more blue...less blue and nothing that I really want as a result.

I guess what I really want is a clear blue bottom with a light pearl blue top. I only want this for a Tiki for drop shotting. Do you know how I can get a clear bottom with a slight tint of blue? I have wasted to much plastic and the re-melts are starting to scortch w/o adding fresh plastic.

HMMMMMMM Maybe I want the IMPOSSIBLE....

Thanks for the offer Jim.... I have some blue pearl.

The Smoke Blue Pearl color is actually blue hilite, not pearl. You can get hilite from LC, MF and others. The SBP color can be bought from MF.

Try 1 or 2 drops of black (for a light smoke color) then add the blue hilite. The SBP color is basically a light smoke with the blue hilite already added. You can make it from scratch just as easily. Check the recipe sticky, BigZ has a Smokey Blue Shad recipe that rocks!

You really won't change the colors too much by adjusting your salt content. Best thing to do is play with the amounts of different colors that your adding. Check out Senkosam's glitter assortment. He has a clear glitter that adds weight like salt, but is clear. It has a lot less effect on your colors, to the point that you can have a "salted" clear bait.

If you want a clear blue, you will have to leave the salt out. Salt makes the bait opaque. You could salt one side, and leave salt out of the other side of the laminate. The sample you posted looks like light smoke with a small amount of blue hilite and a medium blue glitter. It is opaque, so I would presume lots of salt. Hope this helps.

Don't use Pearl Blue!!! What I have is Smoke Blue Pearl coloring...They are different.

As Mojo said before, you are looking for the hi-lite NOT the pearl powder. The difference is great!!

Pearl make the bait opaque and hi-lite will make it look like the color is on the surface but no opaqueness at all. Cal is right, if you add salt...your bait will be opaque!!!

Thanks for all the replys. I just got some blue hi-lite and am going to "THE LAB" to expirement tonight. I will definately leave out the salt. I believe Salt and the BLUE PEARL gave me the opaque that I did not want. The color was there but the clear was not.

I'll post with pix as soon as i get it down........

THANKS TO ALL for your expertise....

Tim
