Stainless type?

Recommended Posts

Just looking online, I see there are many formulations of Stainless steel wire". Anyone experiment with the different types and make any recommendations regarding strength, springyness, tuneability, corrosion resistance etc?

thanks!

Just wanted to know what to order for spinnerbaits and through wires....

stainless steel.........the lower the number, the higher the grade..........300 grade is a better steel than 400 or 600 grade....typically, knife blades are made from 400 or 600 grade.......

304 stainless wire is worth the price..........the lower grades will corrode over time...........not so with the 304.

As for strength........see above :)

Dont scrimp on steel quality........it will affect the overall quality of your baits.

I use a .007 304 stainless wire to wrap weedless hooks.....it is malleable, does not break readily, and does not corrode.

hope this helps.

Like Jigmater said. don't use anything but 300 series stainless wire. If you do general fresh water fishing 304 stainless is excellent for strength and corrosion resistance. If you want to fish salt water, use 316 or 316L. The "L" stands for low carbon, which is better than 316, plus the cost difference is minimal. I will say one thing, I like straight rod over coil any day. However, it is only available in weld rod or minimal grades. Seems I can't get the coil to the straightness I want. :censored: Ted.
