D.J.
Did anyone read the article in the new Bassmaster about Washington State. Basically the the city council of Bellingham is trying to take fishermen and boaters rights away by imposing a 2-stroke motor ban on Lake Whatcom. This is one of the best fisheries in the state. Please voice your opinion at this link. http://www.cob.org/council/index.htm The fishermen might be the only hope we have. Thanks.
cranker
I sent them an e-mail thru the link you gave and I didnt cut them much slack!!!!!People have talked about these 2 stroke bans for awhile now and I dont think they all realize what a negative impact this would have on local economys.I run a 2 stroke Mercury now and I can tell you that if they were banned here I wouldnt be able to buy a 4 stroke rite away and neither would allot of other folks. This sounds like another case of a bunch of politicians who know very little about reality but need an issue to work on so they feel like they are important to society.I feel like there will come a day when the old 2 strokes are phased out and done away with but rite now people in this country have allot more to worry about than whether or not your 2 stroke is bad for the environment or not. These motors have been around forever and there has not been any problems due to these motors. The biggest pollution problems are these large companys polluting the fisherys all over the country daily but these politicians dont want to discuss that but had rather pick at honest everyday citizens.I could rattle on all day about this so I will quit now and find something else to gripe about. woodsac
It's only a matter of time... Here in CA, we have several lakes that only allow 4 strokes. At Diamond Valley, you even have to have your motor inspected, and present a fuel receipt from a station that sells gas without MTBE's in it, before you can even get on the water!!! Then you have to pay a parking fee, and a launch fee
millsryno
I have not read the article, but be aware, that you are going to see many more states adopt these regulations. Keep this in mind if you are buying a boat. It may be worth the extra cash to get the lower emmisions engine. I live in So. Cal and Diamond Valley Lake is my local lake. You CAN have a two stroke here, but since I have not read the article you refer to, I don't know if it is exactly the same regulation. I bet it is. Basically, they are looking for how clean your engine runs and most newer engines have a decal on the back of the motor with how many stars it has. I think 4 stars is the best and you need 3 to get onto Diamond Valley Lake and some others. My Mercury Optimax meats this requirement and it is a 2 stroke with 3 stars. As far as MTBE fuel goes...all gas stations in Southern California are MTBE free. You just have to show a receipt that your gas was purchased in Southern California. Hey, to me it is all a fair trade off. These resitrictions help keep the PWCs and many of the ski boats off the lake. Where else can you fish in So. Cal and not have to dodge jet skis all darn day? overkill
Although it may seem rash, I think it is good for our future. We all want our world to be a good place for our children. And think if some of our modern pollution constrictions had been in place for the 50's 60's or 70's. 120 years ago people didn't think about conservation at all. 100 years ago there were no deer in my home state of Missouri. Thank goodness people got together and changed hunting laws. If not I would not have some of the wonderful memories of Deer Season with my Father.
