Art Brush
Guys, My heart is breakin seeing all the suffering on the news. I'm sure it's only a mere fraction of what's happening there. I'd like to send a check to get a new home for everyone there but I don't have it. I know we'd all like to do something to help. I am initiating a custom tackle auction to benefit Katrina victims. The money collected will be donated to the Red Cross to go directly to those who need our help. We as a community can do something for them if we all donate a few tackle items and tell everyone. Post at every forum and call any big wigs in the fishing industry you know. We can auction single items or we can put it all into one big lot. Any suggestions? dicknite
I have no idea of how to do it, but I'll offer up three 12-bottle assortments of our Fishermun's Lure Coat Paints - if the auction is going to be on this board, or 10 Dozen Assorted Dick Nite Spoons if it is going to be hosted for people other than tackle makers... Oh, Heck. Make it 10 Dozen Dick Nite Spoons AND 36 2oz. bottles of Fishermun's Lure-Coat. Easier that way. ~$500 retail. I'll cover shipping to the USA. dicknite@dicknite.com
topppher
I am in. I made up a lot of extra lures this year, and I will donate 100 of those to any sort of relief effort. I think that we will need to get a moderator involved. Also, we should get a home page link set up for the disaster relief auctions, so anyone that comes to TU can find it easily. I can list stuff on ebay, and put a link in the auctions to TU relief auctions too. I would even make a special edition set of lures to auction off. I am sure that up to 10 of the TU members live in the disaster area, and one of them lived only about 15 miles from New Orleans... I retail my lures at $2.49 each, so that could raise up to $249, but if I made some special edition lures, I would have them retail for more. redg8r
Artbrush, Let me know where you wanna hold this auction & I'll start pumping it. I cant thank the volunteers & civil workers enough for the effort thier putting forth, however I'm unimpressed with the delay farther up the chain of command. I personally prepare every year with a large hurricane kit & plan ahead. These storms are predicted in advance, as opposed to tornadoes & earthquakes so I gotta say, things could be going much smoother. anything we can do to push this forward, I'm all for it. Thank you TU for your ever selfless generousity. Keep an eye on the left side of the site for more info as we get it together.
Skeeter
I would be willing to donate 6 handmade crankbaits to the cause. Just let me know where to send them. If I can get more made by then I will send them also. It is the least that I can do. Skeeter

topppher
I just went on ebay and set up auctions for some spinnerbaits with 100% going to Red Cross, it is pretty easy to do. You just have to get registered with missionfish, who will just bill you for the selling price after the auction is done. I will also donate a bunch to a TU effort too. I will do what I can for Joe and everyone else that needs the help. I know that we are not supposed to put links to ebay up, but I figure that this is for a good cause. This link will be good until Tuesday 9-6-05 at about 9 pm cst. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7180481951&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1 If you bid on these items, it helps those who need the help. If you want to do more, it is easy to set up auction on ebay for charity, and you can sell almost anything that you have lying around the house. turn that old record player into food and water for someone in Biloxi... Thanks guys! Chris
alsworms
Shawn, Count me in. I have hundreds of worms on the wall in my shop, and I'd be happy to donate. Just let me know how you want to handle it. Chris
redg8r
There will be a running graphic on the left side of the site for more information, but for now, heres a direct link: http://www.tackleunderground.com/index.php?page=18 I'll be donating components, molds & lure bodies. I spoke with Shawn on the phone tonight & should have everything rolling tomorrow. Thank you again everyone.
DeVeryTY
Count me in for 6 custom baits for the auction. DeVery
Art Brush
Solid! That's the spirit guys! As we recieve your tackle for auction we will post them in the auction section. I'd like to leave a couple options open to those sending tackle or services. For eg: DeVery & Skeeter have 6 lures. Do you want them to go as a lot of 6? or 6 singles at the same time or 6 in succession or 2 lots of 3? I think we'll raise more money doing smaller lots or single lures. You can also tell us the starting bid. Just include the information in with your auction donation. When the auctions start tell everyone one you know who likes to fish to come and bid high. Every little bit helps. Tight Lines, Shawn
Skeeter
It does not matter to me how the lures are sold. I will leave that up to the organizers. Whatever they feel is the best way to auction them is fine. The main goal is to get the maximum amount that they can bring so that the money can help our neighbors. I will get them together and send them out this comming week. Skeeter
millsryno
One thing to keep in mind...there is a minimum $10 donation per item sold. If your items won't sell for more than 10 bucks, you should combine multiple items so that it reaches the minimum. If your item sells for $3.00, you will pay $7.00 out of your own pocket, plus your eBay fees out of your own pocket. There is certainly nothing wrong with this, if you can afford it as it goes to a good cause. I just wanted to make sure you are all aware though. Skeeter
Blades, The ones for the test are done except for inserting the lips. That will be done this comming week. I have some new deep divers that I will be sending for the auction. I have been using this new bait for the entire summer. I haven't even sold one of them yet. And I am not sure that I will for some time. Skeeter
topppher
I think that if we did smaller auctions with like $10 to $20 worth of stuff (retail) it would be best. I am going to go thru and pick out 10 ten packs of spinnerbaits and get a pic of each. Now, is this effort going to just TU members? The auctions that I have set up are going to the Red Cross, but want these 100 to be designated to members, is that OK?
topppher
Also, where do we email the pictures? Or...?

Folks contributing can specify whether they want to auction for red cross or TU members effected. We'll put the info in the auction when we recieve your tackle. You can email your auction photos to me as I'll be batching them for web. Skeeter, Blades, .. those sound like some kick ass lures. I'm putting up cranks I didn't plan to release for a while either but now seems as good a time as any. Your contributions are much appreciated and needed. Watch the katrina page for updates. DeVeryTY
I'm of the opinion that single item auctions would recieve the most money and please send or post a definite arrival date for the lures. I've starting working but it will take me another 4-5 days to finish the lures and get them in the post. Did we want pictures before shipping or will you photo and post with the auction? basskat
Who all on the board has been affected? I know Joe's house is a good 10 feet under water. I received no damage to my house, just a few trees down. Anything from about 30 miles south of me has some serious damage with the majority occuring from a Hattisburg south line across the state. I'll be headed down that way again Tuesday. All of our fire departments and hospitals in the state are just about worn to a tatter now. Thank God we have outside help from across the nation in helping now.
