Shack Attack
Hi Guys I have just discovered this forum and I must say it?s full of useful information. I am thinking of buying 3 Wenesco MPU2 melting pots; they will be used for pouring musky baits which will be either 2 or 3 colours layered. Before I splash out on the pots are there any others I should be considering? If I get the Wenesco pots I will have the digital thermostat and the 15lbs stirring motor upgrades. What do you guys think of them? Thanks Andy

millsryno
I've been thinking of getting one myself. I have researched quite a few different manufacturers. For my needs, this seems to be the best unit. What price did they quote you? You might also want to consider Sta-Warm (not good with salted baits but otherwise a popular pot), Rite-Hete, C.E.S., Waage and I'm probably forgetting one or two others. Shack Attack
Thanks for the reply, I was quoted $2150.00 for the pots with the 15lbs stirring motor and digital thermostat and I was looking at buying 2 or 3 and get maybe 10% discount. I am still doing my homework because they also do a pressurized system that runs at 15psi, this unit starts at $3850.00 and I am sure I will get the same discount. The advantages with the pressurized system are the speed you can pour the baits, there is no waiting for gravity to do its thing. I have been told this will double my production levels, which is no bad thing. I would really like to try them out before I buy 2 or 3 of them, but I doubt that will be possible. I will have a look at the other brands before I commit. I have a quote and a picture of the pressurized pot if you want me to email it to you. millsryno
Andy, I am familiar with the pressurized pot. It is really nice. I am not sure if you are a hobbyist or a seller, but that would be overkill for a hobbyist IMHO. From the sounds of it you plan on selling your baits. If that is the case, then I don't think you can beat that pressurized pot. By the way, I got a good as new 7.5 pound Arrow mixer like the one Wenesco sells you on eBay for $130. The pot is going to cost me $850 from them with the digital thermostat and high heat control. They told me that if I mail them my mixer, they will mount it for $75. I think Wenesco is marking up the mixers way too much. Arrow sells the 15 pound tourgue mixer for $540. Just an fyi... http://www.arroweng.com/electric.htm
millsryno
Oh, one other thing... If you are pouring one sided baits, I don't think that pressure pot will work. I think that is more for two piece single color pours. It is a semi-injection type system. Please let me know what you decide to go with. I am getting ready to get one myself. Tubeman
Hi Andy, we use Sta-Warm pots for pouring our Stick worms (Del's) and it takes about 8-10 seconds to pour each worm. We use LOTS of salt in this pot and have yet to see a rust problem of any kind, might be because it get cleaned out after each use. I fear that using a pressurized pot will put a person at risk of getting sprayed with hot plastic, as I understand it the operator would have to hold the mold against the nozzle...I would be cautious with that one. We also use Rite Hete pots to dip our tubes from. An excellent choice for dipping, not pouring. We got a heated nozzle attached to one Rite Hete pot and its not the best idea for pouring into one sided molds as the nozzle is too close to the pot. As for a stirring device, get a drill press and it will more than suit your needs. We purchased a model that runs between 240 - 2000 RPM. You can set it to different speeds to suit the level of plastic in your pot. An example using a 2 1/2 gallon Stawarm pot filled to 2 inches below the rim - 700 RPM, 1/2 filled 450 RPM...this allows you to stop any cavitation cause by running at too high a speed with too little plastic. Hope this helps
millsryno
Tubeman, I have a few questions regarding your sta-warm. Is it one of the ones elevated off the ground with a handle on top to lift open the valve? How long have you had it? How much did it cost? Does it have a digital thermostat? High heat limit? Nozel size? Thanks in advance. Ryan
Shack Attack
I will be making musky baits in 2 and 3 colours flat poured on a commercial basis. I have done some work with Shawn at LC and he is also developing a pressurized poring pot and I plan to go and spend some time with him before I buy. Shawn has been very helpful and I trust what he says, because he started out small and has moved up the ladder, I will use his knowledge and learn from him as he really seems to know what he?s talking about. I am not trying to sing his praises here as I have only ever dealt with LC and to be honest I have no need to go else where. It seems a bit of a mine field when it come to buy the setup you want and I really appreciate the input from you guys, I want to get myself setup right the first time for the right money. I was not too bothered about a pressurized system until I was told just how much it will speed up production, and then you have to look at your initial out lay compared with long term profit. I will be in the Chicago area in around a month and then I will visit Wenseco and have a look at the pots in the flesh. Maybe if there were a couple of people on here who wanted to buy pots then we might be able to negotiate a better deal if we all buy together, like a Tackle Underground group discount. Might save a few bucks, just a thought. Andy
aadams
I have a quote and a picture of the pressurized pot if you want me to email it to you. I would love to see this as well. Could you email it to aadams cfxchange.com (of course replace the with @, this keeps the spammers down). Thanks!
