bigbasser
Today I poured some beavers with mf plastic and it was a pleasure. I ordered a 5 gal of super soft and got a pint of liquid plastic for free. I haven't opened the super soft yet but tried the liquid plastic today. It was excellent! The smell was a lot better than calhouns and seemed to pour a bit better. NO BUBBLES!!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to try my 5 gal of super soft. GB GONE
Expect no difference....The 5 gallon and 1 gallon will be exactly alike!!! I think the M-F handles the heat just a little better than Calhoun's so don't be afraid to give it a few more seconds. 2 observations I can definitely give you: Your flake/salt will fall much faster with M-F so you need to stir a little more. (Higher quality resin in the plastisol...) Re-melting of M-F is easier than with Calhoun's. I usually go 45 seconds to 1 minute (if there isn't much flake) before I stir with M-F on a re-melt. With Calhoun's, you almost have to stir every 15 seconds or you will burn your plastic... Jim
Dave V
I can't wait to place my first order with M-F. I'm going for a 5 gal size. I had a blast pouring the free pint he sent me. It smells great too. I don't know if it's just me but I like the smell of the M-F plastic. Dave V
D.J.
I went through my samples fast too. What fantastic plastic I am getting ready to order 5 gallons of regular for sticks and 5 gallons of super soft for everthing else. Awesome plastic! millsryno
Just curious, but why would you want regular for sticks instead of super soft?
D.J.
I remember somebody posting that on this forum somewhere, so I tried it for sticks and I love it. Could just be all in my head :-D Do most of you use the supersoft M-F for sticks? I was using Calhoun's until the bubble problem. I would hate to order two different plastics if I don't need to. Like an idiot, I used all of my super soft on dropshot baits, so I'm not sure how it is on sticks.
harley-cowboy
I have Calhouns, AND M-F. I don't have a problem with bubbles for either. Depends what I am pouring. When I use the M-F I have the Regular & Super soft. The reason I use regular for stix is it seems a little stronger,,, in my opinion. I mix them together ALSO for different baits. 50/50. SO here is what I do.... I use the super soft for BEEVERZ and creature baits, I use the regular for all my STIX, and I use the 50/50 mix for REEPERZ, WORMS ETC. Just my way of doing things. I am sure everyone uses it thier OWN WAY...
NuttyGambler
Thinking of trying MF. Here is what I pour for myself only. Beavers Creatures Tiki Sticks (salted) Given I add softner to the Cal product would it not be best for me to get the supersoft for all of the above? millsryno
Hmm... I am not too familiar with MF products. Isn't the only difference between the super soft and the regular the amount of softener in them? I assume you are adding softener to your sticks. If you use the super soft, wouldn't that just mean you need less softener?
borderbasser
Just like to say that I am new to this, but I have tried LC, Calhoun, and MF, all regular formulas, and I am very pleased with the MF....very clear and no bubbles. It is however, not quite as soft as calhouns, but that is the way I like it on my beavers. I drop my beavers on a 1 1/4 oz. weight in hydrilla that is 20'+ and thick enough a gator can lay on top of it and never get wet! I used to have to add a tad bit of hardener to my calhouns to get the right firmness, but not with the MF...it is just right. Just my 2 cents. harley-cowboy
If you like soft.... Try M-F Super soft. I think you will LOVE IT!! I just think it is TO soft for stix or Tikis. Call M-F and ask them for a FREE SAMPLE of their plastic... ALL you pay is shipping. Bob & Jeff are great to work with...
Senkosam
Tried regular MF yesterday and my results: ZERO bubbles An odor that was strong and not unlike LC's (did I heat it too much?) Softness similar to Calhouns Had to stir it more to keep flakes and salt higher in the mix. Due to the bubble problem of Calhoun I might switch, but only as long as I can avoid the smell. Will have to heat some and take temps to make sure I'm not overheating.
jm
Judging from the smoke complaint, and the trouble keeping stuff suspenced, I think you got it a bit hot. M-F cures (turns clear) faster, and is thinner in the liquid state at the same temp as Calhoun. You can pour it a tad bit cooler, or put it through a needle just before it smokes. Interesting thing, M-F supersoft has a tensile strength that is quite a bit higher than the average plastic. (It stretches longer and harder before it breaks.) hope it helps jm
Bass1cpr
MF sent my free pint of plastic the 22nd, ups left it on the front porch. It sat there for a week or more. My daughter found it yesterday. I sold the entire new batch of jig trailers yesterday and the next batch will be with the MF Plastic can't wait to use it. Confidence is up that my trailers are going to be a hit. One guy took all of them and wants two more colors. Cool Beans.
Senkosam
jm, thanks. I haven't used the candy thermometer yet but I'll bet it confirms the reduced heating time. It was very thin and I thought no where near pouring consistency. Calhouns is usually thicker at the same temp.
jm
Senkosam, That's why colors don't do silly things in M-F plastic. jm
