gat0r
What cards do you get to print your packaging on. I have my jigs in 3" x 4" thick poly bags and I want to staple them to card. I've designed the logo for the card but I need the actual cards to print on. Any suggestions ideas? Any of you let someone else do the printing? Thanks in advance for your help! Jason "gator" Sealock
TrophyFishR
Hey, gator I saw your post and wanted to say that your jigs are awesome. Keep up the good work, I hope you fix your packaging problems.
Mr B
What I used to use when I was stapleing 6 jigs per card was an Avery Label sticker sheet. I had the ones that were either 3x4 or 4x4. I cant remember now. They came 6 or 8 per sheet. On you printer options (Tools) I believe, you can put in the Avery Label Model # and it will format the printer for the correct label. I stuck this label, with my info on it to the top of my card and stapeled the jigs/bags below. The shops around here no longer want the multiple jigs on cards. They want them individually packaged. I guess the bags/staples got a little messy. And if someone tore a few off and they did not want to buy them the Store would have to staple them back on themselves. gat0r
Thanks Mr.B yeah I am individually packaging each one. But I want to put a 2.5 x 3.5 card in the package on some card stock glossy with my logo and bait description on it. You know what I mean? Wondering how you get these printed and if you do it yourself where you get the card stock from, go about cutting it out etc. I'm playing around with it now and didn't want to reinvent the wheel if someone had been down this road already. Thanks for your reply.
Mr B
At the time I was just buying large poster board. It comes in different colors and has a glossy side to it. I was using the large paper cutters at PIPs or one of the other printing places. If yoiu need the labeling to be glossy you will have to have it printed and can cost some $$$. You can get the smaller Avery labels and print them yourself in color on your personal printer. Then just stick them to the top of your card. Monty
you can use business card stock from office max or similar places, name badge stock also will work they are microperfed so they come apart easy after they are printed. go to office max web site or Avery's web site and check out their sizes Monty
MaddoxBay
Hey Gator, I know its not the sizr you are looking for but have you looked at these. http://www.staminainc.com/packaging_materials/crank-jig_containers.html Is anyone here using them? Paul Keltner
Gator, I have been using Microsoft Publisher to make my logo and printing it out on Soft Gloss, medium weight, photo paper. I use about the same size poly bags as you and I can print about 8 cards to a page.
gat0r
Cool... photo paper is a good idea. I need to post what each of my jigs are in as it seems to be confusing. Basically they are ziplock bags that are 3x4 inches. Not all on one card together. But each ziplock bag has a card and a jig in it. Like a Berkley Power Jig comes in those ziploc bags with a card in it. I just want it to look professional. I can design everything in photoshop but I was just curious about the card stock and cutting process. I had looked into the name badge deal on Office Max's website as well. I'm ordering some to play with. I don't want to spend a bunch on packaging because I just want to keep my prices down on my jigs. These are the packaging bags I'm using. Real thick bags. If I staple the jig to the card the hook won't poke out. Thanks again for everyone's feedback. I'm not trying to get rich ... just get enough to feed my habit! clemmy
I'm not sure if you've considered this, but if your printing is a single color, you could just have each side made into a stamp...It'd be a bunch cheaper than printing them out...Also, your bags look pretty clear and shiny, are you sure you need glossy stock as it will be INSIDE your bags? just brainstorming.... good luck! gat0r
Yeah that's a good point Clemmy... my thinking was if you have flat card stock (non glossy) the rubber baits (or silicone) might smear the cards etc. I bought some different papers today to try out. Figure the easy cutting and such later. Thanks again guys for your suggestions. Any more are always appreciated. WidowMaker
If you are inserting cards into a zip lock bag you have to account for the bending of the package from the bulk of the jighead. You will have to go with a fairly heavy stock for the label. But however you can use a single card with a hang hole and staple the bag to the face. The hook will not likely penetrate the bag this way. This will save you the trouble of stapling the jig to the card and fighting to get it into the bag. Also remember the location of the hanghole in relation to the weight of the jig in the bag or it will hang crooked on the peg board. Any card you put into a ziplock bag will have to be just small enough to get through the opening or it will look "odd". If you are specializing in bass jigs you will be using one size bag so it wouldnt hurt to have a proffesional printer do the work for you. You will have a lot of cards per one size but at least you wont have 3000 cards each of several different sizes. This is where it gets expensive. Also this will give you an opportunity to put them into stores.
gat0r
Thanks WM. Good points made. I'd like to have some professionally done but not to the point that they are cost prohibitive which many places I've searched for seem to be. Berkley Power jigs have a thick card stock in a plasitc bag. I'm sort of thinking along those lines on my jigs but I only want to add a few cents to the jig prices to keep the costs and retail prices down. I've got a design worked up. goin to print some samples and try to get them in stores here in town for sampling the demand. Thanks again guys... WidowMaker
If you print you own card stock with a colored background the edges will have white spots unless you have a professional tool to cut them with. It will be best to have them made without hang holes so you can compensate for the weight distrubution of the product in the bag. Unless of course they are all basically the same weight. Ive never packaged anything where i had to staple the product to a card inserted into a bag. But i would think a clear plastic adhesive disc would be better to attach the bait to the insert card. This may reduce the chance of the bait moving around inside the bag and possibly scuffing the plastic material. Maybe this would work.....maybe not. Maybe a drop of clear silicone would work. Some plastic bags may be just the right size to make your product look good but many tackle shops have standard peg boards. A bag that is too small will result in "dead space" surrounding you product when it is hung next to and in comparison with other products. With plastic bags purchased in bulk you may receive 500 or 1000 zip locks which will be divided. Half will have the zips towards to other end to compensate for the bulk of the ziplock. Sometimes the holes are cut a little off center......this deosnt happen too often but the fact is it does happen. You will need to put the zips all at the top and check the holes to make sure they are all in-line with each other. If you dont do this and you are using adhesive labels you will end up putting some of the labels on the backs of the bags. The holes will be a little off-center and it could be noticeable on the pegboard. I use a bag that is made of a very clear material thats is similar in clarity to that of the little envelopes that are used to display pain relievers in the convenience stores. It is clear as glass and really makes a insert card look good. I dont know if they make it in the size you want but you can give them a call.
