fishin4eyes
Have been working on some jigheads and looking for some advice. I am using Pro-Tec powder paint for a base coat and then adding some detail with either pemanent markers or Testors enamel paint pens. The powder paint is holding up just fine, but if I use the other paints or permanent marker on the top, they need to be clear coated. The only thing I have had any sucess with has been Devcon. That is really time consuming. Does anyone know of any other paints or tricks to make the paints I have work? I searched the board and someone suggested "baking" the enamel paints in the oven for several minutes. Anyone else have any ideas? Thanks! Pickerel Pete
fishin4eyes ProTec paint needs oven cured after coating. If you put on your secondary colours fist then cure it helps. Also WalMart has craft paints, water based clear shelac for top coat. No were near as good as epoxy but not bad. Looking for small sleeves for stingers Try www.luremaking.com Hope this helps. Garry. woodenfeather
I've been doing the same thing with great results. I dip the head in a base color, sprinkle on some secondary colors, let it cool and then add stripes and detail with a permanent marker, then reheat and sprinkle on clear with glitter. Then I cure them in the oven as per the manufacturers directions. Another thing I tried and turned out neat was to use permanent markers on the bare lead and then dip into a transparent color. Like pickerel Pete said, you have to cure them after you add your details.
