Coley
Yesterday, was a very good day. I had the opportunity to shake hands with my 10th TU member. Bobby Kelly, aka MaddoxBay, from Ark. was in Nashville with his wife and 17 mo. old son. While his wife was in training, Bobby and his son, slipped off to Gene's aka Lincoya, for a little get together. Let me just say the future of custom lure making is in good hands. I got to add another TU members lure to my collection. And, Gene had prepared a nice lunch, and taught me another trick that will win a BOB contest. All in all, a great day, thanks to Bobby for being there and Gene for hosting. Coley
MaddoxBay
I had a great time with Gene and Emory (Coley) I hope I spelled your name right. The food was great and the comradeship was even better. Did I mention the food was great? Next time we are going to have Coleys trashcan cooking. I was excited about the bait trade. I made up a couple of baits at the hotel the day before the meet to give to the guys. I bet that was a first for the hotel? I hope they liked them. Genes work shop is exceptional, it?s a place every lure maker should have. The layout is great and just loaded with goodies. Emory helped me out with making molds and I am glad I got to see them first hand. He has put a lot of time into his work and it defiantly shows. He had several molds with him and was in the process of finishing another. He has this down to an art. I have a good feeling about making my first mold after talking with Mr. Emory. Gene is a carving master. He can also put an edge on a knife. Emory had some tools that needed an edge and in a mater of seconds it was better than new. He also has enough bait bodies cut and stored to last for awhile and it doesn?t look like he has plans to slow any time soon. His photo finish baits are remarkable; they look like real fish setting there. We sat around and talked about fishing and making baits for several hours. Both guys are very talented to say the least. I am glad I had the opportunity to meet with these members. I just didn?t have enough time to meet with Gene and Emory. I definitely came home with more knowledge than I came with and I would like to think that I also left with two new friends. There was so much going on that my boy just couldn?t take it all and he finally crashed out and took a nap on the shop floor. By the way, Gene keeps the place exceptionally clean. Once again Thanks to Gene for being such a great host and thanks to Emory for making the trip and bringing his molds. I am also glad to say that I also have started a collection of TU member baits. Thank you Gator for the TackleUnderground site. If it wasn?t for the site I would have never had the opportunity to call these guys friends. I just cant say how great of a time I had... :!:
Lincoya
Once again I had the pleasure of meeting another TU member. Bobby arrived at my house about 9:30am and stayed until around 5:00pm. Coley joined us around 10:00am. We talked for several hours which seemed more like 1 or 2. The conversation was enjoyable. I grilled some hamburgers for lunch (not as good as Coley's "Hobo" but it filled a hollow stomach). Bobby brought Coley and me one of his handmade cranks. Believe me, for no longer than he has been making lures, his work is certainly well up to par. Bobby, If you get the chance to come back, you're always welcome.
