bass4cache
Im looking for a purple flake that doesnt bleed. I found that I like Dels but Im looking for a darker purple. From everything I've tried it all bleeds quite easily on repeated heatings. Any Ideas?
millsryno
SenkoSam's Violet Purple seems to do quite well for me. By the way, haven't heard from him in a while....you still alive SenkoSam?
smallheadz
Del's is the only purple that I have found that won't bleed. The only part that sucks about that is I had to throw away about a pound of purple from LC and Sam. If you pour from a cup you can get away with the regular as long as you pour the whole cup at once and don't reheat and don't have it too hot from the get go. Aluminum flake is the only way to go with purple I don't know if they can get other variations of purple or not.
BigZ
I buy glitter form the local fabric store and they have some killer colors I haven't seen anywhere else, including a wicked purple. Doesn't bleed or curl, comes in a 2oz plastic canister. Takes heat better than most do. I think the maker is polycril but the name is something different, sparkle-fx or something? Worth a shot and no mail order involved. I even told the girl at the store what I was using it for and they guaranteed it would work... they were right. Now if they only carried black... You will want to avoid metallic glitters and stick to the acrylic based stuff unless you like smoldering waste in your microwave or are using a different method (Lee Pot, Hot Plate) to melt yer plastic... Will
Z, Can you find out the brand name of the glitter you are talking about? Also, if there is a website on the label of the glitter container, let us know. All purple flakes I have used bleed big time and it changes the color of your bait. Thanks. bass4cache
Wow, Im glad Im not the only one that has this problem. Can you use the aluminum glitter in the Microwave? Thanks for all the info!
smallheadz
Frank, Not looking for a refund. The only reason I threw it away was I was running a color that had purple in it and I added it to 6 pots and screwed myself when I realized what I did so in order for me not to do that again I just got rid of it. I would have kept it because when it bleeds it does make some weird colors but I can't have them change when running orders. I just put it to trial and error. I've thrown more money than that in the trash on this hobby(job)
millsryno
Just curious if you are using SenkoSam's purple violet or purple maroon? The purple maroon bleeds. It gives the plastic a chamelleon look. I have been using the purple violet and I can assure you, it is not bleeding on me.
smallheadz
I am sure it was the violet because I mixed it with LC's after it bled and I think I still have maroon in the shop. LC's red also bleeds bad- sams doesn't This is just my presonal experience and what works for me. Trust me I wish it did work for me that is the only color of his that I don't use
Senkosam
One of my suppliers is Polycryl and though most of their glitter is heat restistant, not all. Plus, they don't always have the sizes that most people need, when they need them. They will sell in 1 lb amounts, but Del would be cheaper per oz. Otherwise, 10 lbs will get you the discount, which will be offset by shipping and delays. I have over 20 10lb bags of glitter in my workshop - some from Polycryl and some from another company in Mass. Both are like dealing with the old LC before they were taken over. Good Luck! Certain colors can not be used with clear or a few other hues without tinting them a little. Each handpourer has a preference of color exactness and it's very understandable, especially for those that sell. But for many of us, if a specific color enhances our lures, minor tinting is acceptable and maybe warranted for chameleon colors. I originally sold glitter because LC's service was so bad and I wanted to offer a cheaper alternative, as well as colors seen in Yamamoto lures. Unfortunately my suppliers are limited and the best glitter must be ordered in huge amounts from overseas before you will be taken on as a wholesaler. One company in Taiwan has superb glitter, but no USA distributor - can you imagine the shipping? I'm relieved that M-F and Del have good glitter and are the best suppliers when variety is needed, but LC is in good hands and may consider changing their line-up as well as giving a true net weight. Feel free to buy from them and compare.
BigZ
OK, the stuff I get from the craft store is made by mark enterprises. http://www.productsusa.com/mark_enterprises/glitter.htm. THey don't have any prices listed on their website and I doubt they can compete with senkosams deals. Their glitter is good though... Travis
I use a lot of Mark Enterprises stuff also almost exclusively. They have the Stampendous line of glitters if I remember correctly. I haven't had any of the stuff from them bleed. My local craft store carries it. Not the cheapest but it alwasy ends up going on sale and then I stock up. Poor Boy's Woman
We, Poor Boy's, uses a lot of purple glitter and the bleeding had been a real problem. I have had endless discussions with our manufacturer and they have been working on the problem and believe they have it fixed where it will withstand 350 degree temperatures. We are also testing the purple when it comes in to make sure it doesn't bleed easily. With that said - since we are also LureCraft - our purple glitter should not bleed at normal temperatures any longer. We are also adding 4 new colors to next years catalog!
