kidlizard Posted August 18, 2003 Report Share Posted August 18, 2003 I know there are lots of experienced scent folks hear so I always try to ask before I screw it up myself. I would like to add a neutral scent " like tournament pro" to our plastic while cooking, just to mask the smell of the plastisol (3G). We use KNB for all of our products and its great, but we cant add it to the plastic while cooking because it will cook out easily. I just want to have a good smelling bait before I add the KNB scents. Mercury Posted August 18, 2003 Report Share Posted August 18, 2003 All the scents that I am aware of, from LC or any other company will cook out in the cooking. tournament pro, garlic, craw and shad will cook out before your ready to pour. From what i am told about 3g, the plastic does have a real odor. Too bad they dont make a odor neutralizer. But all plastics have some odor. I just want to neutalize it like you said before adding scent. I know someone is adding scent while they cook, because I remember them talking about it. When I worked with 3-G, there was a fine line between burning the plastic and adding too much stabilizer. Garlic was the only scent that I could use to mask the odor; 2 drops per ounce about a minute before being ready to pour. You might try a touch of Lure Craft's garlic, then add your Kick N Bass after. The Pro Cure that I use is awesome, but I'm afraid it will cook out too. Perhaos if you are adding it to a cold pot, it may but I put it is just before pouring. Many of the waterbased scents cook out almost immediately. You can also add scent to cooled worms. rookiepourer Posted August 21, 2003 Report Share Posted August 21, 2003 I have just resently started pouring and have tried three different scents, KNB craw, Berkley Powerbait and Pro Cure craw. KNB is by far the easiest to use. It mixes right in the hot plastic. After the worms have cooled you can still smell the KNB . Pro cure starts cooking after you add it and it creates lumps that take awhile to melt away. After cooling there is just a faint smell . The berkley creates a great deal of air bubles that take more time to melt into pourable plastic . I have been adding the scents when the temp reaches around 300 degrees. I have talked to their sales rep a number of times and he assured me it is available. That would make it easier for you as it gets added at the factory. I can add it at any point in the melting process and it does not cook out or discolor the plastic. It is called "Hot Sauce" and is produced in California. Good stuff !!! Studies prove that bass have a superior sense of smell. They actually can seek out odors....just another reason to add some natural based oils to your baits: UPPER HAND SCENT-MARINADES will permeate into the baits over a period of time, yes, it's that strong!!! We are using LC scents now and they are pretty good. I can still smell them after the baits cure, we use 20 drops per 1 cup of plastic. Although you can smell it its not super strong. TOAD Posted January 11, 2007 Report Share Posted January 11, 2007 When we were pouring at the old Snoozers Bait Co shop it smelled awesome in there we used 100% natural scents except for the Garlic it was synthetic we added the scents right before pouring it will cook over a little but to no avail it was in the bait and had a shelve life of more than 7yrs still have un-opened bags that have the same smell as day one..did change color schemes thou on lighter colors so cut back if you are using the real deal,,and we did not use oils they bleed out try using the real deal you wont go wrong Todd Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
sotoole Posted January 12, 2007 Report Share Posted January 12, 2007 Interesting to hear all the opinions on scent. My personal experience is that garlic is by far the strongest and longest lasting. I have noticed that all scents do cook out at some point. I notice that as the pour lengthens., the scent is still present but not as strong as on the first bait... add a little more 1/2 way through is my thought. Remember...it can be used in hot plastic applications and as a marinade in bags afterwards for packaging. I also sell a thicker formula for packaging. The scent oil can be used for either or, but I recommend that the thicker stuff be used only for packaging and applying to baits. The thicker formula is available by request ( Hawg Sauce, Magnet Sauce are the only ones available in the thicker formula ) most guys are requesting or ordering just the scent oil.
