Big Splash
OK, I've heard that one can use the bondo for dent repairs to mold lead. Anyone know anything about that? I've been told if you are careful you can get many (1000+) castings from a bondo mold.
Triton Mike
My question is can you use Bondo or fiberglass to make a lead mold?? I use Durhams Water putty to make a Lead mold but it takes a full 2 days for it to dry to use (two parts to the mold 1 day per part). Anyone made a lead mold out of bondo or fiberglass and lived to tell about it?? I can make the mold no problemo I just curious if it can handle HOT lead. Mercury
The bondo (body filler) can handle the heat. But you have to let it cool down before pouring into it. The fiberglass resin will run a higher chance of cracking the mold, but if made thick enough it will handle it too. Have the cavitys wider appart if pouring lead. As not to fracture the wall between the cavitys.
woodsac
Triton Mike, My question is can you use Bondo or fiberglass to make a lead mold?? If you look on the first page of this thread, Chirmy actually has a picture of one of his molds that he pours lead into. You might want to drop him a line to ask him more about it.
