jig7
i would like to start pouring some jigs and don't want to buy a bunch of molds to get started. i was wondering if i could get some suggestion on a good all around do-it mold. i do a lot of flipping in grass and wood. i was looking at the new poison tail, snootie or bullet. any suggestions greatly appreciated Thank you
LedHed
You might consider making your own molds. Try doing a word search - lots of info on this web site. Check out eBay for used molds. Hilt?s makes some molds that you might be interested in.
Mr B
The weedless Arkie or Snootie are great all around molds. Many Companies make the 60 deg hook for these. The Arkie is very versatile. I flip it, throw it in trees and also rocks. This is a good place to start for weedless jigs. After that you can expand and go into Footballs, weedless footballs, Bullet jigs etc. MR B
bassn1
I have the arkie, snootie and the bullet molds. The best all around jig I found was the bullet. The arkie and the snootie tend to hang more in the grass. The snootie is a pain to make with the stick-on eyes too. The bullet can be made into a killer swim jig as well. Just my opinion. Mr B
I also have all three molds mentioned and they all have their place. The bullet jig is made for grass. The cone shaped head alowes it to go through grass well. However when fished on rocks it will fall over on its side instead of standing up in a defensive posture, like a crawdad. The suggestion (the arkie) is the most "inbetween" style jig there is. It is the most versatile. It combines features from the football style (wide-standup style head) the bullett jig (forward positioned line tie and weedguard). Which ever style you try Im sure you will love them. There is nothing more satisfying than stickin a lunker on one of your own baits. Well maybe when someone else tells you they stuck one on your bait! Party Crasher
I have all the weedless molds and if I had to have just one, it would be the Poison tail in the smaller sizes. I love that hook in them and I have used them to fish standard Jig N' Pig, flip, and even swim. The mold even makes a tiny 1/8th ounce that is deadly for finesse situations. You can fit a small #410 hook in them and make a little bass jig like a bitsy bug. I also put a small twin twister tail (no skirt) on them and killed smallies on them You have to get the larger mold if you want to make 1/2 ounce jigs and larger. I even made some 3/4th and 1 ouncers and used them for Musky Swim Jigs. My second favorite would be the weedless Stand-up. It's also very versatile. Pop
Can you up the size on the Poison Tail without altering the mold? Thanks, Pop
Elken
The Poison Tail molds don't need modified; they are already sized for pretty big hooks and I haven't had any problems putting hooks 1 size up in them without modification. I have both the small mold that does 1/8, 1/4 and 3/8 oz and the big mold that does 1/2, 3/4 and 1 oz. The recommended hooks are pretty big for their size plus they are extra wide gapped.
