Jmc-bass Posted January 18, 2006 Report Share Posted January 18, 2006 Hey all..... First, I am a newbie and just wanted to say hi! Anyway, I love fishing with flat crankbaits like the little petey. I would also love to start making my own plugs similar to the little petey style baits. I was wondering if anybody could give me some tips about how to run the wire harness through the bait. BobP Posted January 19, 2006 Report Share Posted January 19, 2006 Thru wire is best on balsa baits but not essential. I never use it on hardwood baits. You can make a balsa bait that holds up for bass fishing without it if you use a sufficiently long line tie and hook hangers (1") and epoxy them in well. For thru wire, I scribe a center line around the "square" rough blank before sanding. After the bait is in its final shape, split it in half along the line with a razor blade. fit in the wire frame and epoxy it back together with 5 min epoxy.
