Triton Mike
I am looking to add a weedgaurd to a ball head jig and wanted to know if anyone knows where I can get some thin wire to mold them into heads with my Do It mold?? I am thinking guitar strings but I haven't priced guitar strings so I don't know how expensive they are?? Any other ideas?? Gr8flyz
Mike, guitar strings are rather expensive. You can get fine stainless wire from Jann's, Barlow's or Stamina, or you can try Hagen's.
Celticav
Welcome aboard T-Mike, I talked you before on the BFHP and the Wedowee Board, I am bassreeper's aquantince: JIM. To answer your question if I can; you can use any size wire that you are happy with on this from guitar strings to the wire inserts for similiar molds that are sold in Jann's and Barlow's too I believe. Guitar strings are rather expensive but have you checked with some local music shops to see if they could collect a bunch of broken ones for you... surely one would. Hope it helps, JIM
dtrs5kprs
Good to see you on this site T-Mike. I make a ton of jigs with wireguards using nylon coated leader wire (sevenstrand, etc...). It is usually available in a bright and a dark finish to match head color, and comes in a variety of sizes based on # test / diameter. The #80-90 works well for me, have used some #60 to make whippier guards and some flexible blade arm heads. If powder painting to nylon will "cook" and stiffen up the guard, if left unpainted or painted with vinyl, the guards will stay pretty flexible. Really makes a good guard, I am able to fish them straight down in the middle of big cedar trees at T-Rock. Only mold mod required is a little groove on one face of the mold, can cut easily with a dremel and cut-off wheel. Does not affect the mold much if you want to pour w/o guard, just snip off the extra lead. Bottom two heads on left in the attached pic are an example. I also use it on stand up, football, and round heads. Hope it helps.
Triton Mike
Jim, I won't hold it against you that you know Bassreeper ~ LOL. Thanks for the advice I was going to ask another question but Dave pretty much covered it . I got a design up my sleeve that I want to try out and you guys pretty much nailed it. I'm going to Bass Pro here in a second and see if I can find any leader material in the saltwater section rather than order it from Janns, Stamina etc. Thanks guys and preciate the welcome You guys got a great board here!!!
