bubbah rubbah
Hi guys, i have been lurking a while, gathering info on how to cast rubber.. great site, and there is alot of info here. I have a question though... ive been casting for a few weeks and have been having problems with bubbles. Im pouring MF saltwater plastic into a plaster mold that i have sprayed with clear lacquer spray to make it non porous and then i give it a quick squirt with Pam cooking spray as a release. the problem i keep having is that on my first few pours i get bubbles rising up to the surface. the last one i pour is usually o.k. but im pouring very cold by that point.. is the Pam giving me bubbles?? Am i doing this too hot?? Im stumped.
basskat
Try coating your molds with Devcon and forget the release agents. Also warm your molds, don't get them hot, just nice and warm to the touch. I store mine on a shelf above the heater in my shop. These steps should cure your problem. bubbah rubbah
Basskat thankyou, I coated it with some epoxy and the bubbles disapeared. I think moisture from the plaster was steaming into the rubber.
reelnmn
basskat, could you explain Devcon a little more. I've heard a bunch about it in several different posts, but I can't seem to find the stuff. Does Wal-mart, Home Depot, or Lowe's carry it? Thanks.
