finlander
Skinny, flat-sided, narrow lip? or can I add more weight to existing lures to troll them faster? Is it as simple as hanging a bell sinker on the hook hanger??? Thanks.
savacs
Well i usually fish high speed lures, when fishing for asp, in strong currents. By high speed meanning that sometimes i must reel the bait in as fast as i can. Don't know if u'll need to troll them that fast...but... What i usually like to use minnow tipe of baits. Not necessaryly flat sided. Rounded, and flat sided work just fine. If u ayn't going for deep divers, then here u r : more horizontal lips might be required. What i notticed works better(meanning makes lures more stabile) Is a wider lip at the front, that narrows towards the head. If u intend using shad tipe of baits, what u could use to make them even more stable is narrow the belly a little bit. Usually the horrizontall lip, and a good weighting do the trick for a fast retrieve bait. And with a horrizontal lip u won't have that much drag on yout rod tip, as u would with a normal(husky jerk type) lip. I can;t help u on deep divers, but someone will deffenetly do
woodieb8
much depends where you locate the pull screw besides lip. inserting belly weight helps on some design as flat sided baits. i assume your trolling speeds are at 3.5-5mph
finlander
Those are the speeds I am shooting for. Finally getting a boat and motor to get to those break neck speeds All i used til this year was an aluminum 12' with an electric. Stealthy, but useless unless you're on the downwind side of a hurricane. The Honda should put me there. I saw a couple of lures in Rollie's that will go to 6 plus mph, w/o weighting them. They are larger at 10" than I'd like to use. Time to experiment once the ice goes for good.
