reelnmn
I need some help with burning Calhoun's plastic. Just got mine in the mail today. I've been pouring some baits with MF and have not had any problems with burning, except when reheating. My first question is what should Calhoun's plastic look like? MF is about the consistency of milk - you can shake it up in the container. The Calhoun Super Floating Plastic has the consistency of Elmer's glue. Is this right? I've tried heating 3 times now, each with 2 ounces. I heat a durations of 30 seconds. At one minute it turned to a very thick mix. At two minutes it burned BAD. But it still was extremely thick. The third time I lowered the power settings on the microwave from 10 to 7. BTW it is a 1300W...don't know if that helps or not. Repeated the process and it burned at 2:30. I never reached a liquid state...it stayed white and thick. I used the exact same process for the MF and it did fine...can someone help me out? Should the plastic look like Elmer's glue?? I wanna pour some worms
earthworm77
Call them up and ask if they will send you some softener. Sounds like you got the bottom of the drum with all of the hardener in it. Calhouns should be the same consistency as what you are used to. Delw
I believe you bought the super floating plastic, thats a completely different ball game all together. Its very thick stuff. The first time I heated it in the microwave I burnt it pretty bad, the second time I just kept on heat but very slowly and checked it every 30 seconds. I didnt like the microwave for this stuff. I found it worked better on the stove. Because its thick it will burn easier so do it slow do a little at a time and try it. It will gel then get a little thinner but not much( it kinda pours like ketchep) Once you get it remember how you did it. You can thin it out a tad by adding a little softener, this will make it easier to pour. Also if you add heat stablizer you can cook it a little hotter. Any brand softener or heat stabilizer will work. Just need a little Like a capfull Also remember that this stuff needs to be mixed extreamly good betfore its used, I recomend the wifes egg beaters Delw
jmik26
reelnmn - I would just go back to MF or try Lurecraft, service is better and the plastic is far superior. I had 2.5 gallons of Calhoun plastic and couldn't even use it for pouring senko's. No matter how hot I got it, it poured like cream corn. Now I use Lurecraft and it pours and injects like a dream, supersoft plastic doesn't even need softner. Just my 2 cents.......
shaggy
I will have to agree with jmik26 on this one. I purchased some of the calhoun brand plastic, and the stuff about smoked me out of the garage. I tried heating it up really slow and had the same results. I do like the feel of the finished product better though. My next purchas will either be MF or I will go back to the LC.
Delw
jmik26 he is talking about a completely different plastic, this is a super floating plastic, not that soft plastic you bought a few months ago. and then waited a couple of months before you called me to say you had problems with it. And I told you that you could return it and we would replace it immed.... you also said you would send it back. Not bad for bad customer service huh considering we have a replacement policy http://www.del-mart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14 With out seeing the plastic anything anyone says about it is only speculation. But I can tell you calhoun plastic doesnt pour like cream corn. unless the plastic wasnt mixed completely in which all the softner was taken out and you were left with hardener only. M-F, Lure Craft Calhoun is pretty much all the same with a few differnce's its kinda like the old ford vs chevy vs dodge sayings. Shaggy Plastic wether it be calhoun, lure craft or m-f will smoke alot if it gets to hot and it starts to burn. smoke is much more noticeabel on the stove then it is in the microwave. Ive used all 3 and some might smoke a tad more than others, Delw
shaggy
No offence Del, I do really like the plastic I purchased from you, but it smokes a lot. I have tried to microwave it on a low temp stirring it every 30 seconds, and it still smokes. The plastic that I had from Lurecraft hardly smoked at all wether it was heated on a hot plate or the microwave. I know that there is a whole gaggle of people on here that sweare by you products, and I do like the feel of the finished product. I will continue to use the rest of the gallon and then see how it goes.

I was useing 2101. is there a possibility of getting about 8oz of that sent to me? I wanna check it out. Delw
jmik26
Del, just so everybody understands. I sent you four emails and my phone number, then you finally called me about three weeks after intial contact and told me to ship the product back so you could take a look at it, not replace it. Since I was at a Super Bowl party I couldn't write down the address so we agreed that you would send the address in a e-mail which I never received. So the product is still sitting there I should have expected the loooonnng lead times though, somehow you find time to post in TU but you don't have time to contact you paying customers : Del, you are so quick to blame everybodies process and not the product. I agree with shaggy 100%, Calhoun does smoke, and it gives off a oil vapor, my exhaust fans were dripping with some sort of oil. I understand that you are pasionate about what you do and the products you carry, but we are pasionate about the baits we pour. You say that this is speculation, thats what TU is all about. A forum where avid bait makers can voice there opinion about any product, process, or concerns. As far as comparing MF, Lurecraft and Calhoun there is none, In MY OPINION MF and Lurecraft are far superior. I have had a total of 5.5 gallons of Calhoun, I would think that would be enough plastic to establish an opinion. But I can understand where you are coming from, you think your Chevy is the same as my Titan
