CrawChuck
Thought I would share a bit of comic relief that turned into $$$ Back in the late 80's when I was fishing hard and pouring lots of baits, the scent attractors were just getting started real good and I had this bright idea to crunch up a bag full of real craws and put it in with a bag of junebug plastic craws. I stuffed it in the tackle box and pretty much forgot about it for a few days. A friend of mine at work had invited me to fish a Red Man tournament on Lake Texoma. I had never fished a big tourny before and was all nervous. All the way travelling to the lake we kept smelling something foul, never thought about the bag in the tackle box...till we got to the motel and started doing the usual go through the tackle routine. Man what a stink!!! That was some foul bag-o-baits, LOL! I drew out with a fella from Texas and we met up the next morning at the ramp for me to load up. I quickly explained the smell so he would know I did shower and he just gave me a funny look. Well I offered him the use of any of my lures should he want since I'm not the greedy type and he politely declined and asked me to stay in the back of the boat. I didn't mind being back there since I was used to it not owning a boat and liked the pitchin room. Proceeded to catch fish right from the start and was culling within a couple of hours while my partner had yet to land a fish period using same color of every craw he had. It was a fun day for me as I kept ribbing and prodding him to try some of my stinky craws but I guess his pride would not allow it being his jacket was covered with every sponsor patch under the sun. Weigh in found me with 14lbs. 7 oz. and good enough for 7th place that day. The fella who won that day was fishing a smaller version of my craw in chartreuse behind a jig. It did wonders for my publicity in a short time. Time to unload my gear and settle up for gas with my partner. He didn't boat a fish sad to say and just held his hand up to deny my money offering for gas and said "I just want that bag of crays"! We had a nice odor free return trip with a check in hand for the home journey. I never heard from that fella again but hope he enjoyed the stinky crays!
