Basswacker
Visited lake wylie this weekend and fished submerged rockpiles with partner.Partner was using the same crankbait but mine I had epoxied and never had a bite. Partner caught 6 3-7lb on an un/epoxied. bait. I have never been smoked like this before.
cullin8s
Some baits are weighted so precisely that an extra coat of paint messes everything up. Also some baits are different even within the same bait if its not altered. I have a favorite factory crankbait, that i have 8 of only 2 of the eight are "special" the others just pull water. Just curious what was the lure?
basstech
Back in the early 90's there was a David Fritz interview in or maybe just an article on him in Bass Master mag. He was saying there are some days when a fish won't bite a glossy finished bait. The story went he was getting skunked while fishing and finally grabbed an old crank that had been faded by the sun and the gloss was completely gone and he tied that on in "desperation" and started slaying the bass. Then he started hanging baits in his windshield to get the "sun" effect to flatten the finish. So he had glossy and flat finishes in the same colors. scoop10
was this a lure that you had made? was it a factory bait you had repainted? Also, what about his?
sgtbonecrusher
how can you get that flat finish with epoxy.....not using the sun for the fade effect? they make a powder for that, but it doesnt work......we tried it. nick www.lureinnovations.com
mossy maker
I wonder if you epoxied as normal, lightly sanded with 600 grit, and then top coated with a satin laquer or urethane if that would work.
blackjack
Guys here is some info that was passed along here some time ago, if you take a flat finish bait and put it in the water it becomes glossy!! This came from Tim Hughes along time ago. Tried it and he was absolutely right!! Its a gimmick for the fisherman not the fish. The fade is the real deal as if you have ever seen a sunfish that resides in deep water the coloring is almost nonexistant.
