dockboy
Can you modify the old Citica reels from Shimano? Now that they've replaced the old Citica w/ the new version, the old ones are going for like $50 at some places. I've heard if you take out the bushings in the reel and replace them with bearings, they will cast and retrieve just as good as a Curado. Is this possible? If so, how do I remove the bushingd and what type of bearing should I use (ABEC-7s)?
ssrmr2
there are a couple things that you can do to make the sitca a bit better. as you know the citica and curados are the same, differnt gearing. you can add the main and pinion gears from the curado and it will have the 6:1 ratio. also the bushings: the one on the spool can be changed with a 11mm od x 5 mm id x 3 mm wd. and the one on the left side plate is a 10 mm od x 4 mm id and 4 mm wd. there are a couple places that have them vbxbearings.com, boca bearings, and heartlandtackle.com I added bybrid ceramic balls and stainless housings in mine to help keep the cost low. also in the main gear you can change the drag washer to the new cabontex washers. these are aftermarket and not shimano supplied. add some shimano drag grease to them and you will be golden. so smoooth. bearings will run about 10 ea! depending on which ones you buy. drag washers are about 10 for the set. gears.... i dont know havent tried it yet. steve
