muskyhunter63
Hi, Does anyone solder the loops closed on the end of thru wire baits. What I and wondering is what kind of solder do you use to close the loop instead of twisting the wire to close the loop
WVaGitzit
I have a friend who makes wire throughs for muskie (Smuttly Dog lures) and he twists the wire ends, no soldering.
muskyhunter63
The reason I was looking to solder the wire is because the wire is fairly thick at .073. It can be a bear to twist. My Hagen's wire bender won't work on this thick of a wire and I would rather not try modify it. I can get a bend with round nose pliers but I can't get the twist to look good thus the solder question.
cheesehead
I think the heat from soldering would ruin you bait
robbor
I dont believe you can solder to SS wire. I dont even thing you ca braze it, but if you could the heat would shurly distemper the wire badly where you heat it.
bassn1
SS wire can be soldered. I went to Praxair and they hooked me up with a special solder and flux. You do have to heat the wire up so it turns red so you would have to make sure you don't ruin the rest of your bait.
cadman
I work with a lot of stainless steel sheets and wire. I know for a fact that you can tackweld it for sure. Since the wire is so thin only a couple of small tacks would work, and it will never break. The only problem is you need to know some one who can weld, or weld it your self. PaBasser
I also tack weld stainless, it works great. You just need to get someone to tack weld them for you. Ask in your nearby weld shop, someone there could help you out. PaBasser
muskyhunter63
Duh!!! I never thought about welding. I suppose I could tack it with my MIG welder. All I will need is a spool of stainless wire. Thanks everyone. I have seen the loops soldered but never thought of tacking it. Thanks, Ken
