Berkley recipe

Hey Pop,

Go to www.pro-cure.com and click on the "Master Products" link. You'll find the threadfin toward the bottom of the page. It is listed under "butters", but it's actually a liquid. The only caution is it will make the plastic bubble (slightly), but it dissolves in a matter of seconds. I like to put just a drop in a couple ounces of plastic, then treat the worms with a drop and popcorn salt in the bag.

Hope this helps :)

Chris

Thanks Chris, I ordered Anise Plus Clear Bait Oil, Freshwater Shrimp Bait Oil, and Herring Bait Oil. Have you ever tried any of these? As a side note, I ordered material from MF then two days later ordered material from LC. The material from LC was on my door step the day MF was just shipping. Is MF always that slow shipping? Pop

Pop, I don't know what Chris' experiexnce with M-F is, but in the past my M-F orders have arrived in 2 days and I've had problems with 3 LC orders. This last time I ordered (last Monday) I got my LC order Friday, and M-F hasn't even billed my account yet? So either the tides have turned, or I just had a bit of misfortune with LC in the past.

Hey Fellas,

MF is a small family run business, and you may have caught them during a vacation. It's happened to me a couple times. Otherwise, they are very good about shipping the next day. With MF, your best bet is to order online with a credit card. For some reason, I've found it's even quicker than a phone order. My problem is usually with Lure Craft. My last order was missing two items and they sent the wrong mold, but they are very good about making it right with the customer.

Pop.....

I LOVE the anise oil. It's absolutely the best out there in my opinion. I use the herring oil for my saltwater stuff. Never tried the shrimp, but odds are it's pretty darn good. :) So far, the only ones I wouldn't recommend are the crawfish (makes the plastic very foamy, like pouring a pitcher of beer) and the predator scent. The predator is a strong reddish color. I guess it would be okay to treat your baits with, but not to add in the mixture. Your color will turn......well......red.

I have not made an order with any of the companies yet. But I have talked with MF on the phone and they are some nice folks. I called him and asked all kinds of questions before I found you guys on the other board and now here. Since I lived here in Texas he asked me to come and watch their whole operation from making the molds to packaging and everything else that they do. I haven't made it up their yet but he explained the procedure they use to make their molds and how to pour the worms. I don't know how long I was on the phone with him but it was great. The folks on here are making their molds pretty much the same way they do. So everyone is on track.

Just thought that I would drop that in about MF.

Thanks Chris, :D

Now another :?: . On a two part senko style mold made of aluminum, hand pouring, is it better to warm the mold before pouring or have it cool. Have been trying to pour some 5" worms and cannot sem to get them to completly fill the mold. Either come out with somewhat of a hollow center or not completly filled :? . Any pointers?

I had problems initially with Senko's and thin tailed grubs, I found that the best results came from slow steady pours, basically I try to pour slowly and directly into the hollow rather than touch the sides of the mold with the plastic, I have found that even the tiniest slowest pour with accuracy is much better than a less accurate quick pour.

Not only that , but also fill from the thin part of the mold wich is usualy the tail. Then move to fill the larger parts of the cavity.

I then try to keep looking at the level of the plastic in the mold. And stop just after the plastic has crested of the top of the mold.

Nothing I hate more than finding out that I didnt fill the mold enough when I go to pull the lure out.

Chris, Thanks for the link.

I recognize them now, they're the ones who got me started in pouring about 30 years ago; I bought their stuff at Grants, a dept. store which is no longer in business...

I still have about 4-5 of their moulds stored at my father's house...

A real blast from the past!
