firestang_au
I started to play with making a blank to make a mould out of today and here it is. I sill need to do some detail work on it and sanding etc,but for the first go i'm happy.Going to do a one sided mold first up , although i have got an idea on how to make a two piece resin mold also. firestang_au
Thanks , it's a start. amazing what a bit of softwood , a dremmel tool and some advice can turn out. The idea i have for a 2 piece resin mold is to suspend the model upside down over the mold box , pour the resin in to the point where it reaches half to 3/4 the way up the side ot the model, let cure,de-mold then do it again. Hopefully the second is a match for the first side ,sand down the two surfaces that will mate, grind out the pour holes and in theory it shold be ok. As long as the setup is spot on when suspending the model over the mold box is identicle it should match perfectly, hopefully. other thing is ,the item being molded hsa to be solid, i guess you could glue a plastic onto an icecream stick and turn it upside down ,that may work. Anyway just an idea i had today.Feel free to shoot me down in flames if you think it won't work .
jm
Beautiful model. Polyester resin (bondo, etc) shrinks about 3 percent, Epoxy, plaster, and RTV don't. hope it helps. jm
