TwoBits
I'm having a heck of a time powder painting 3/4 and 1/2 oz football jigs. Can't seem to get them to the right temp using a lighter. These larger mass heads aren't as easy as the small stuff. Anyone have any tips , other than spending $50 on a fluid bed ?
dayooper
Try using a heat gun to heat the jigs. It provides a more constant heat. Or if you have a large number of jigs to do, place them in a pan in a toaster oven at about 350 for about 20-25 minutes. You may have to adjust the heating time or temp until you get it right. Check out www.tjstackle.com under the powder paint section for more tips and tricks on painting large number of jigs.
Kman
Started out using the gas stove to heat the heads one at a time. Now I use a Wal-Mart $18 toaster oven. 350 degrees (by an oven thermometer) for 15 minutes or so seems to be about the right spot. 400 degrees if it's going to be a two-color dip. Here's a pic of that toaster oven. I use it upside down, so the wire rack and trap door (for the toast crumbs) are at the top. Works beautifully. Good luck, Kurt PS If you are doing a lot of volume YOU DO want a fluid bed.
