Happy Posted August 30, 2003 Report Share Posted August 30, 2003 I ordered some unpainted plastic crankbaits from Janns Netcraft. I opened the bag and they have a very foul odor as a matter of fact they stink! Will it go away? I wet sanded some with soap&water to prep them before painting. dtrs5kprs Posted August 30, 2003 Report Share Posted August 30, 2003 Have noticed the same smell with unpainted baits from several manufacturers. Think it is specific to the clear bodies, at least as far as I have noticed. Trust me, it does not bother the bass. Once you have 3-5 layers of paint and 2-4 layers of clearcoat on the baits, you will not know they ever had that funk on them. As for cleaning, I do wipe my baits down with a little 70% alcohol to remove any mold release agents that might interfere with the base coat.
