Mesabooger
I bought one of those new DO-IT poison tail molds and my jigs keep sticking to the mold. They stick so badly that I have to pull hard and it ends up bending the jig. Is there something I could spray on the mold to make it easier to get the jig out? Thanks
dlaery
light a candle and blacken the mold cavity with the soot.
Mesabooger
I knew somebody on here would have the answer. Thanks
ominousone
Is this sooting process necessary with every pour? I am just starting and will be pouring soon, so I'm sure I will be running into the same issues.

VANNDALIZER
Guys, I recently tried this on my poison tail mold and they still stick! Any other ideas?
dlaery
Sounds like an under cut in the mold. Where is it sticking? I'm going to make a wild guess. Is it sticking in the eye socket?
smalljaw
I never smoked my molds and have no problems. Are you heating the mold before you start pouring? what kind of lead are you using? These things can cause the sticking problem you're encountering.
ominousone
is heating the mold necessary? I have heard that it is alright to just pour w/o hooks for a couple of pours and that should be suffice. Am I correct?
smalljaw
You can pour without the hooks to heat your mold but it takes a little longer. I use a small tourch as I'm waiting for the lead to melt I heat the mold and when the lead is melted I pour 1 time without the hooks in each cavity I'll be using to make sure it's hot enough for the lead to flow freely. It reall doesn't take much time to heat the mold but if you prefer you can pour 8 or 10 times without hooks to heat.

21xdc
I'm betting this will work too... Sold cheap at Home Depot.
Will Wetline
https://barlowstackle.com/Casting-Release-Spray--P361/ I've used Frankford Arsenal's Drop Out for years and highly recommend it. Unfortunately, it's out of stock at this time at Barlow's Tackle where I get most of my supplies for jig making. A Google search will probably turn up another supplier.
Kasilofchrisn
Another vote for drop out. It's great stuff and way better than other graphite sprays.
Slammingjack
i use the Blaster. It works so much better then smoking the mold.
Fatman
I've never had that problem and I hate sooted molds if I find one on ebay! Are you using a different hook than the mold calls for?? That could make it stick if there's a rough edge, or it wasn't seated right.
jigmeister
I usually heat up the mold I'm going to using by setting it across the top of the lead pot while it's heating up .
