clemmy
Perhaps more correctly in the homebrew tools forum... I'm just about to close on a new house, and i'll have workbench space in the garage. This will have me moving upfrom the kitchen table (wife mad at me) stage. What I'm looking for in a luremaker's perspective on what they have found they love in their workbench (or perhaps more importantly, would add/change if they could). I might be space challenged, as I do soft/hard/wire, but I'll pour lead outside, so that may help. So c'mon fellow tinkerer's, what do I NEED for my workshop (given a microwave for soft plastics and good lighting), and would/should I add if I COULD? Thanks! RangerZ
Congrats on getting your "own" space. One of the most important things I think is to make sure the bench is at a comfortable height. Decide whether you are going to stand or sit and design from there. Another big factor is storage for a lot of little parts. I actually have 2 standup benches and 1 sit down and I am always looking for more places to store little parts and tools. Good Luck!
reeves
Your work shop will be your refuge so you want to make it as comfortable as possible yet efficient for the work you will be doing. I would definitely agree with RangerZ as to the height of your bench, it is important that you are comfortable at this space, your productivity will increase. Another couple of huge items that I considered in mine were: Ventilation for both lead melting and painting. Lighting - something I can't have enough of. Climate control, heat for winter and A/C for summer. You will probably change things many times as you find just the right place for everything as you perform your different operations. nova
On the lighting subject; if you use floresent lights make sure you use full spectrum lights as it will give you true color.
siebler_custom_baits
Just rebuilt shop and made new benches. The way i decided to go this time was a, 8' counter that has the micro and plastic pouring area. When i do lead i throw the pot on that counter. Other bench is strictly painting. Then my desk has the assembly stuff filed for making skirts and putting together baits. So far im loving it.
