finlander
I was told there is a tool that might emboss a scale pattern, maybe onto the foil. Anyone know a source for such an item???

finlander
Thanks. It looks like the Mac-Z has a more realistic look to it as far as the scales overlapping one another. Has anyone ever used one??? Made their own?? Seen one up close? We can get the look by spraying thru netting. I am looking to emboss aluminum foil. Thanks again. RiverMan
Save your money, I bought one and it didn't work very well. First of all the roller is too thin and it's difficult to push the roller down hard enough to where the scales show up well. You can get a better pattern by using various other surfaces to run over the foil over. RM
jerkbait
It has a lot to do with the size of bait and the type of wood. With softer woods like balsa and bass, it does ok. I agree that the rollers could have a sharper profile that would emboss deeper, however the idea is natural looking for taxidermy purposes. I did a pict last year, I will post if I can find it. The scales are backward but you get the idea. Iwas done over Basswood. Hope it helps Jerk
finlander
I thought I had replied earlier. I guess I forgot to tap the enter button or something. I am trying to glue down round sequins onto wood. Overlapping the sequins as I go to look like a scale pattern. I then emboss the foil with the sequins under the foil. After doing only a few rows, it looks good. I takes some time and patience. I thought of overlapping two pieces of netting but so far none look real good. Thanks for the tip on the roller. I have a brayer here that is a hard plastic, that I could cut into the brayer a scale pattern. That or cutting a pattern into wood is last on the attempt list.
