ssrmr2
Hey guys, since the recent down time wiped out the all the tutorials, can anyone lend a hand? I am about to make my first mold out of RTV silicon from Mcmaster carr. I will be ordering the Blue rtv flexible to make molds of swim baits that i use. can anyone confirm this material for one sided molds for traps and hammer style bait? also if anyone is looking for lead, Mcmaster carr also has lead 5 lbs for 16 bucks. -steve
tad
Can someone get these tutorials back up for those of us that are new to pouring your own and new to this great site. Thank you
LedHed
ssrmr2 You should shop around for your materials. MC has lots of good stuff but they ain’t cheap. If you are going to buy lead – ebay would probably be cheaper. Try to find a local source. 5lbs doesn’t go very far – depending on what you’re pouring. earthworm77
Check out Micro Mark for silicone. They have a 50/50 mix that is about 2lbs of so. It is less expensive than any other and you get 2lbs compared to 14oz from most other makers.
ssrmr2
thanks for the insight. Mcmaster-carr is local to me, so there is no issue with shipping and supply. some of the hollywood places for molds are $$$ but i bet they are very nice. i am only making one sided molds. -steve
LedHed
Steve I talked to Kman a couple of weeks ago and he was doing swimbaits with plaster of paris and was real happy with the results – forgot what he said he was sealing the molds with. You might want to check out Lurecraft, very reasonable pricing, and great people. Like their plastic for saltwater baits. They have a bunch of swimbait molds (I have 7), they even have a hammer style.
Predator Bass Baits
Last winter when I checked around smooth-on was the cheapest, but you buy 2 gals for like $132 it is oomoo 25 or oomoo 30 and is a 1.1 ratio. I bought the micro marc but it was 1 pint of each for a qt and it only made about 5 or 6 molds
bassassazzin
I had bought some rtv silicone a year ago for intended use of making my own mold. I believe I payed $20 some bucks for the 1 lb. mix. It's anybody's for $17 bucks incl. Shipping! Will take: paypal or check.
