dampeoples
I've onyl foiled one bait, but I applied foil, made scales, cleared, scuffed, painted, cleared. Still haven't added split rings, hooks and fish yet, though
doomdart
It is quite possible to paint directly on the foil. In my experience you will still see the etched/pressed/rolled pattern just fine. Haven't tried putting the clear over the foil before painting. I'm thinking that might be a good plan for irridescent type colors.
BobP
I paint on foil tape with no problem but guys who foil by gluing metalic foil sometimes report problems with paint adhesion. If you have any doubts about the paint scheme, a coat of epoxy over the foil makes it easy to change paint or fix goofs. When you epoxy foil, the scale pattern shows through perfectly but it's encased it in a smooth surface finish.
silverdoctor
Bob; I used the foil prep and painting tips the site posted (just b4 the crash) and they worked like a charm! Thanks to you and TU, sdr
Hoodaddy
We foil alot of baits in year...it seems like they're real popular around here. We have found that paint adhesion and just the general look of the epoxy over foil is a lot cleaner and nicer looking than painting over or on the foil. The other plus is if you make a mistake painting its easy to clean up and re-paint.....and yes the pattern shows nicely.
