Skeeter Posted January 7, 2007 Report Share Posted January 7, 2007 You determine the length vs. width by trial and error. It is just that simple. Once you do enough baits you will be able to make a pretty good educated guess by looking at the lure. Copy a few lips from your favorite baits and stick them in your lure. Then take the bait to the water and observe what type of action that you get. It is just part of the work that you have to do as a crankbait maker. And the angle does not necessarily determine how deep the lure goes. It determines how fast the lure will reach maximum depth. savacs Posted January 7, 2007 Report Share Posted January 7, 2007 I wish it would be a speciffic way to determine this:P...But considerring all facts, and things that influence a lures action...U can make a lip larger than the lure itself if u want, and if u struggle with the lure shape, and line tie position, u can get the exact action a lure with a smaller lip , exceptin the depth they'll swim at.
