Pop
How is everyone altering the do-it molds for shakey heads. Thanks, Pop
Big-D
Pop, I took a saltwater ball head w/barb collar 1/8 cavity (don't know the model off hand but it takes the 635 hook and has a good keeper barb) and modified it to take a 3/0 light wire 60 degree Mustad. The eye of the 60 degree hook sits in the original place for the 90 degree hook. I taped the eye in place with duct tape and got the shank sticking out below the collar where I wanted it, closed the mold, and whacked it with a hammer several times to get the impression of the hook shank. With a good triangular file, I reamed out the new slot for the hook shank. Put the hook back in, wack it with the hammer a few more times and back to the file. Repeat this process until you get a good fit. I have since bought an 8 cavity mold for 1/16 and 1/8 oz heads- the modified mold pours 2 of each size at a time. 1/16 takes a 2/0 and 1/8 takes 3/0 or 4/0 (trick worm). H2Fishing
I put up a thread about making them out of the football mold but soon realized you can probably do it on any mold that has the weedguards. This is a way to make them without modifying the mold. There have been some good replies to the thread, maybe it can help you.
