charkins
I bought a used Del-Mart 5 inch tube mold. I have been trying to pour in it with no success. I have heated the mold and even heated the rods to 225 degrees. I have the plastic smoking hot to the point I am afraid it will scorch. Nothing seems to work. I get 1/2 a tube down the length of the mold or I get one side fairly good with some on the other side. I just can't get it to pour a whole tube. Anyone got any ideas?? Someone have some experience with this?? Thanks
Delw
cut a vent down along the sides for venting. drop the rods downa bit, I dont have to preheat the mold when I use these. I assume you have a stock one? they pour very good. how much salt and what type of plastic? its better if your plastic is runny. also tilt the mold to the side to pour allowing the air to escape on the top. smallheadz
are you pouring from pyrex or a pot? if you are using salt you may have to cut back a little on the salt and up the softner a bit. You will end up with a really soft tube but this is about the only way to get them to fill correctly at least for me. I pour them from a pot so I can control the flow. Pour it to the side to let the air out . Still at that I have some that are not right. Yes they are a pain to pour. I will add that my molds are 2.75" and not the 5" you are pouring. One other thing I think helps a bit is to coat the inside of the molds and the rods with pam or some kind of cooking spray. hope this helps a little
charkins
I have the rods all the way down. Formula is 8 oz LC 500 extra strength plastisol, 5 teaspoonful salt. I presume this is a stock mold. I have not tried tilting the mold when pouring. I am pouring from 2 cup pyrex with the plastic smoking hot. Delw
Charkin, in some cases you need to thin the LC500 plastic or at a bare min add some heat stabilizer so you can cook it a little hotter, lc 500 lately has been a little thick. first try tilting the mold at about a 10 degree angle. charkins
Well, I got it to pour. I used LC 502 plastic and added some softener and some heat stabilizer. I left the salt out. The tubes are very very soft. I wonder if they will hold together for even one fish. I tilted the mold some and I coated the inside of the mold and the rods with worm oil. I had very little success until I heated the mold and coated with worm oil. I tried a two color pour, but they really looked awful. I hope this helps someone else. Anyone got any more ideas, I would be glad to try them.
Delw
Cal if you are handy with a dremal tool or handy with toold put some vents at teh bottom of the tube along side the rod hole. One on each side fo the rod hole. if you have access to a mill ( hand or cnc) then take a 1/4 " endmill and cut a .004-.006 deep path on each side of the rod hole length wise.
