bassman843
has any one tried making molds out of bondo. I heard they aren't easy to use but they work
braveviper
Its the best for your buck. You can get a couple dozen pours in before it starts to come apart.Im assuming your pouring lead? The key is to put the master in at the right time.Too early and it will sink...Too late and it wont go in.Its like that. Dan_T
I use a mixture of 75% Bondo with 25% fiber glass resin to make soft plastic molds. The fiber glass resin thins the mixture which helps to pick up better detail. You can use either the hardener that comes with the Bondo and or the hardener that comes with the resin. I use a little more than half the hardener the directions on the can calls for. This will slow the curing down but it helps to cut down on the warping you will get if it cures to fast. Travis
They work fine and pick up detail ok. The problem is that they get hot quick and then get soft. I have if for several molds because it is about the quickest way to get a pourable mold if in a hurry.
Dan_T
Are you wanting to make molds for lead or soft plastic? I have never tried to use them with lead but I use them often with soft plastic without a problem.
