clemmy
I normally use thread for my hair jigs and skirt collars for silicone, but am in need for something stronger. I know lurecraft sells jig tying stainless, but anyone reccomend a size and supplier based on their experience? Thanks! Clemmy
ominousone
How about using kevlar fly tying thread. It would seem a lot easier to use to me. But I don't know what kind of strength you are trying to obtain. That kevlar is pretty strong stuff though.
WidowMaker
I would think that attempting to tie a hair jig with wire would be a nightmare. Also i have bought several different brands of stainless wire and each brand is different in terms of bending. I believe i would try the kevlar first. dtrs5kprs
Kevlar rocks the hair jigs. With hair you need the thread to build up the collar area so you can apply the bunches of fiber. Wire is fine for silicone or round rubber, but it will tend to cut silicone if you wire it too tightly. Try a copper or brass wire vs the stainless or galvanized wires. clemmy
Thanks guys, I'm building a bottom fishing jig for saltwater. I'm tired of getting them all chewed up by triggerfish and what have you. So I'm trying for a indestructable rig. I'm trying polypropoleve for the skirt, powdercoated head. What I think I'll try first is thread base - skirt - thread wrap -nylon-coated stainless overwrap - devcon 5-minute epoxy overcoat..... fish devil
clemmy, devcon 5 minute is more prone to yellow, the devcon 30 minute stays clear.
