Shawn M
Hi guys, I got a chopper blade in a bulk blade assortment buy and thought it looked kinda cool. Has anyone used these blades and, if so what are your impressions? The one I got was a #6 and was thinking it might work on a 1/2 oz SB as a single blade. Thoughts? cheesehead
They work good for walleye spinners. They turn nice at slow speeds.
dtrs5kprs
Good single spin blade. Also very good on short arm baits for night fishing. Bumble Bee used to make one, the "Chopper Bee" if I remember correctly.

donkjc2
any pictures of the chopper blade?
Shawn M
These are the ones Stamina has: http://www.upnorthoutdoors.com/stamina/spinner_blades/chopper_spinnerblades.html I keep looking for the unique blades that may show the bass something different. Do they live up to the "The unique shape and cup make for a great vibrating action"? Shawn
dtrs5kprs
Living up to is hard to quantify, but they do have an entirely different feel and flash. For single spins I do not think they will disappoint you. Believe the Stamina blades are made by Lakeland. I still have some old Chopper Bee's in with my Tarantulas and Spence Models . I think Bumble Bee just went quietly into the night like so many other good companies that were blown away in the expansion of the Strike Kings and etc in the late 80's early 90's. gpw
Bumble Bee was bought out by Hart. They continued to produce baits with the chopper blade for a short period of time. If you are looking for a blade with a lot of thump, you would be better off sticking with a colorado or indiana.
Shawn M
I have been happy with colorado blades and wide willow blades for "thump", but never considered an indiana blade. I've used indiana blades as the second blade on a tandem though. I plan to order some 1/2 oz SB heads soon, so I'll give the one chopper blade a shot before I order some. Thanks, Shawn
Tally
Shawn...maybe you could talk Dave into blowing the dust off of one of those "real" chopper bee's and take a picture for you. At one time they were a pretty popular bait. I am sure that Mr. Pingel got plenty if he sold the company
WidowMaker
Hey its been a while since i saw one of the Bumble Bee spinner baits...somebody please post some pics. Does anybody here actually know the guy who used to make them? Would be nice if we could get him to drop in for a visit.
Tally
Does anybody here actually know the guy who used to make them? Would be nice if we could get him to drop in for a visit. The guys name is Bob Pingel. He used to live (may still) around the Oakland area of Bull Shoals. It has been nearly 20 years since I have seen him and he is a super guy. Last time I saw him he was playing around with a rod I think he called "comfort grip".
Xcite Baits
First of all I would like to say thank you to everyone on this forum. TU has really helped me get started in making my own spinner baits and soft plastics. What an exciting day when you can go out and catch a fish on something you made!!! I have made several different colors of the chopper blade spinner bait and caught many fish with them. I think it is just something different that the fish haven't seen yet. I think the ones I made are 3/8 with a #4 chopper blade.
Shawn M
Here is a 1/2 oz SB I put together with a single #6 chopper blade. I will hopefully be able to try it out this weekend to see how the action is. Tell me what you think. Shawn
