Reaper lures Posted October 19, 2003 Report Share Posted October 19, 2003 Whats the scoop has everyone sent thier baits in yet? This is the 19th baits were due on the 15th right? I live in Pa. and in another 2 weeks our fishing will more than likely be done it sure would be nice to be able to try out all the great stuff before the water temp drops below 50. I understand people get busy or just don't have time but they should have noted that up front or said some thing came up and they couldn't participate because of unforseen reason's or that they simply couldn't produce that many baits in a short time. Seminol was realy looking forward to trying his baits in his big tourney and other's like myself have a very short time left to fish. Any way thanks for putting this together I for one greatly appreciate your hard work and effort. Hopefuly I am speaking for the whole group when I say no one is blaming you. Dont worry about it, everyone understands that large projects like this are going to take time. I think you hav done an excellent job. Maybe we should do this annually. That way everyone can have time to prepare for the big swap. That might be a great idea, but of course we will have to get you more help. In fact now that I think about it, its a great idea!!! Who thinks we should organise this into an annual event??? It will take some serious planning, but would benefit everyone involved. Even thou I didnt have the baits for my tournement, I still did well with my own. I didnt receive a check or finish in the top 15, I still learned alot and thats what fishing is all about !. Thanks Merc ! for putting on a good swap. By the way guys Merc did offer to send what he had Overnight ! I declined knowing that he was swamped doing the swap. I make some awsome 5 1/2 " flippin tubes that you guys in the south would have some fun with. We use them up here and still have 2 lbers inhale them whole. Its kinda funny watching my buddies hook a fish like that with 50 lb braid and a 7/0 hook...they fly from one side of the boat to the other on hook set . Tim, you got it made with your year round fishery....its 5 degrees celcius most mornings now and I hate the onset of winter. The only saving grace is I can put more time into lures. When someone like Merc takes his own personal time to do some thing like this for us people should be be a little more respectful to him and the other's in the tackle swap we all made a deal in a sense. Step up and atleast give us an update on when you will have the baits done! When people do things like this it can cause guy's like Merc not to do things like this in the future and the ones who participate may not want to agree to do this again. Kinda goes on the screw me once shame on you screw me twice shame on me policy huh. I was fishing today and the water temp was any where from 48-51 so my fishing is pretty much done Thanks! I'm thinking of getting a commercial plastisol melter (3 gallon cap) this month. That will really speed things up and make our tubes more uniform in thickness unlike the microwave method which can be hit and miss....damm hobby is turning into a job. I realy enjoy these swaps, and the timing is not a factor for me as I'll soon be ice fishing, but lets all make a vow to be sure to have baits in by the deadline in the future... it's hard enough waiting anyway! I know I sat up untill 2 am pouring baits before leaving on a Salmon fishing trip to make the deadline, and I'm sure others did similar. Better yet, lets make it a policy to just enforce the shipping deadlines for these swaps in the future. My hat is off to Merc. I know the pressure of organizing this type of swap (and I hope to do it again ) So here is a big THANKS to ya, and I can"t wait to see what you guys cooked up! If a participant can't make the deadline, he should e-mail the organizer and drop out or be automatically dropped if his baits aren't received my a certain date. Granted, unforseen circumstances do happen, but as Big Splash mentioned, some of us hustled to make and ship the lures well before the deadline. To make 21 lures x 5 or 6, wasn't easy for the low volume pourers, especially striving for consistancy. If someone changed his mind, for whatever reason, he should contact Merc and drop out as soon as possible so that someone else can contribute. I have a team tournament on Nov 8, and I leave for the Western Classic on the 9th (tournament is 11thand 12th) I would like to have the option to try all the members baits. You never know one of them might be the one. As for the slow pokes, each participant must accept responsibility. For whatever reason they appear to have gotten over their head. Understandable when you first enter a swap not knowing 20+ will have entered. At this point they should forefit the $5.00 and let everyone else get on with the swap. That is what this site is all about , to live and learn. As for my extra baits, put them on EBAY and bankroll some cash for your time and effort. I don't think this was too big of a swap and I look forward to the next one. I entered to get some ideas and see different stuff.
