cadman
Can someone let me know where I can find info on replacing rod tips. What does a good rod tip cost, and how do you apply it, so it doesn't come off. I have guys in my fishing club, who want me to do this. However I want to make sure that I do a good job, so it doesn't fall off. Out of curiosity, does $5 a rod seem low, fair, or high completely finished. I would appreciate any info...Thanks
gtlegs
Five seems low, Im not sure if you could get a good tip for less than $5. BTW to replace one you can just use a very fine blade saw or a triangle file to cut away the old one or to cut away the split ends from where it broke before. Then I just use my devcon and put a good amount on the end of the rod and slide the new tip on. Then take your mixing stick and run a little bit of epoxy over the edge of the new tip. just make sure you get it aligned good and then let it dry. braveviper
I have used epoxy and a hot glue gun to affix a new tip both with good results.Five bucks is about right for a tip, they take the most beating of all the guides and you will most likely replace it again anyway.Thats why I like using the hot glue. You just heat it up with a match and pull it off.I will get back to you with the mold numbers in the morning ok? doomdart
Wal-Mart carries Fuji brand as well as their store brand tip kits in the accessories section near the fillet knives/sunglasses/etc. The kits range from $4 to $6 (I think) and come with three or four different sizes of tips with the application glue. The glue is heated with lighter/etc. Like the others mentioned, the glue can be reheated on the rod tip to remove it later. Since rods are often stored in hot places, it is often preferable to use the Devcon as suggested by others.
