GB GONE
Ran to Wally World for a few things and breezed by the fishing section... WHAT!!!!????? I almost had to buy one to get a picture!!! There is an EXACT copy of the javallon bait called the Majic Shad for sale by Lake Fork Tackle!!! They put it on a SORRY LOOKING, UNPAINTED round head jig and low and behold..... the lower portion of the packaging says... PATENT PENDING!!! You have got to be kidding me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Way to RIP OFF another company exactly and then try to patent their design!!! I am boycotting LFT for good!!!! They did not even try to change the bait one bit!!! Even used an exact copy of a picture of the javallon swimming on their packaging!!! Jim

Gloomisman
makes you wonder how in the world the little guy stays in business. Glad I've never bought one of their lures. I will keep it that way.
gofish24
ahhhh what is a javallon bait? i'd like to know what i dont need to buy from them.
MDC
Hey Jim There was a post about these on a Texas Fishing Forum site a while back. Said that Mark (LFT)had gone fishing w/ a Japanese angler some years ago and showed the bait to him and he was the one who heisted the design for the Javallon. Said somewhere he has the original mold and proof the design is his. I may have some details wrong, but this was the 'angle' of the thread. Supposedly from LFT insiders. My first question would be 'why is it just now being manufactured by LFT?'
GB GONE
Well that would make me want to go after the overseas companies then!! The bad thing about the whole deal is that the bait doesn't really catch fish in the swimming mode. I know dozens of guys that have bought them and had "0" luck across the country. If you look hard at the website the Javallon is on, they catch most of the large fish using the bait on the down shot (drop shot)... I think LFT will have a hard road ahead getting a patent this many years after the fact. They really did the bait an injustice by putting an unpainted ball head jig on the front. It really cheapens it up!!! Doubt many will buy them as they are packaged.. Jim
MDC
I agree. The thing doesn't do much for me either. I haven't heard of anyone around here using them. I was at a tackle show a few weeks ago and all of the LFT distributors with a booth had a pro-staff member pushing them on every one that walked by. I like some of their stuff, but they won't get my money for these.
nova
They do catch the fishermen though Jim; and at $15- $20 for a 4 pack I don't think they are too concerned. We all know that there might be 50 cents worth of plastic there. Not bad profit. www.novalures.com
Patrick
I belive they are $4.98 for a 4 pack...A bit cheaper than the Javallons
MDC
I thought so. They were offering them for $4 at the tackle show. Special price, ya know!
dtrs5kprs
Boy, really makes me happy I just finished my molds for that bait . Hmm, hours of work, $$$ worth of RTV, available at WM...very very rewarding. I re-built a version from sili safe clay and re-molded due to issues with the rib not pouring well. After playing with some last year I'd have to say they do prety well when swimming or waking, especially in clear water during spawn post-spawn. Found them to be much like working a big jointed red-fin. Our drop shot bite is usually more of a 3-4" bite, so no experience there. Wonder if that is why the Javallon has been harder to find thru some of the Japanese ebay sellers.
Delw
I think the javallon is a great bait, Ive been using it from time to time and caught some really nice fish on it. most hit when swimming it. its an excellent jerkbait
azbass
I just got a free sample (4-pak) in the mail. Looks like a pretty good bait to me.
Delw
azbass, use them at lake pleasant, rosy and bartlett . next month when it warms up just before the spawn these baits will be fantastic. the white ones been working during the winter as jerk baits, they are almost as good as vixens Delw
dtrs5kprs
Another, as yet unaddressed issue, is that Japanese manufacturer's inability or disinterest in bringing that product into the USA market. Obviously it can be done (see Lucky Craft). Exclusivity is great for a while, but it is just not the way of the American marketplace, and that bait has been around for a few years. Sort of lessens any ethical issues in my view. Also, we don't know if Lake Fork bought the US rights to market from GarageCraft.
BAssKickin
Del - Do you plan on making a mold for the Javallon? Had to ask... Also, you coming up to Idaho this spring? If so, let's get together and go fishing. Scott
Delw
Scott, I have a mold already for a few different sizes, they are made from scrap for testing. after making the first one I found a few ways to make it less expensive and faster. I just need to do that. cant put them on till I can stock them up. I am planning on coming up for the spring bear season. I will be in nampa if everything works out during that time. if time permits and and I actually go up there lets hook up for sure it would be a blast to fish in idaho again for bass. I used to fish there a lot before but only for gaybass ( aka Trout) Delw

savacs
I heard that it's the other way arround, and that the Japanesse stole the product from the US. I heard that Mark Pack's shop burned down a few years ago(i hear he has the actual mold prototype), and that he's the maker of the original, and that he gave some protos to a Japanesse tournament fishermen, that took the model back with him. So who knws how it goes, and whoever stole the model from whom...I preety damn sure would like to find out:)
