tactical-bass
G'day, I just got my custom stickbait mold from Bob and started pouring with a 2 piece aluminum mold for the first time. Only problem I have so far is I'm getting a slight underfill along the length sometimes, when I pull the bait out it looks like a dent in the bait. I've been preheating the mold in front of a space heater til it's warm to the touch before using. And it doesn't happen all the time, maybe 3 out of 10 or so. Anything I am doing wrong? Also, I haven't yet searched the archives but I have a question about what to do with my baits after I de-mold. It's a 5.5" bait that's about 1/2" in the center and 1/4" on each end, symetrical with no eggsac. Laying them flat doesn't work, the baits end up bent and crooked hours later. I've been stringing them on a length of piano wire strung horizontally between two nails by the filled sprue overnight before trimming the ends off the next day. Any simpler way? Other than a few of these small problems I'm having as an inexperienced pourer, I'm extremely happy with the custom mold from Bob, quick turnaround, excellent communication and very fair price. Kudos to ya Bob for helping newbies to this hobby! Thanks guys! T-B
Predator Bass Baits
I get that dent sometimes when I open the mold to soon. When you heat a mold it takes longer before you can remove the bait, try to pour without heating the mold, if you can pour the bait then you do not need to heat the mold. I do not heat any of my molds but my Garage is heated.
saint308
The dent is an air bubble not escaping, I think. Try not to pour so fast or make sure the plastic is hot enough. Saint.
bassnfool
Saint is on the right track. I pour almost all of my stick baits out of a pour pot and used to get a dent in the side of a bait occasionally. I cranked up the temperature from 325 to 350 and almost never have it happen anymore. Temperature increase was the only change.
tactical-bass
Thanks guys! Any ideas for me about keeping the baits straight as an arrow before bagging? Here's the bait... Spazzstixx 5.5 I had Bob press in a pin on center, eliminating the need to bend the bait to find center when wacky rigging... I'm just lazy I guess! SwampBaits
The name on the bait came out pretty good looking.
miles
to keep it straight have a tupperware container(4x8 going an inch or two deep) to put the just cooled baits in. that should work.
