the_hide
Sorry gents not really soft plastic lure creation but related, I've got a number of the 8oz procure oils, I absolutely love them to the point I'm taking the oil out in bags regularly in my kayak and soaking the plastics even more while I fish. This is becoming very very messy by the end of the day. Is there something I could mix the oils in to make a paste / butter consistency, its alot less messy (you still smell but its local to your hands not clothes, kayak, rod, reel , tackle box etc etc). I know procure sell butter but I'm based in australia and I really don't want to have to pay for more shipping when I have an abundance of oil's. Mercury
Jeeze, I could just see what your kayak smells like! I use the sauce, and it dues stick well, But what about using a cotton ball to help keep it in the bag? Or somthing like corn starch to use as a thickening agent? I know a few of people that also use a Q-TIP , a few drops of scent on the cotton ball part of it, snap the stick about a half inch below the scented end, Stick the shaft into the plastic bait up to the cotton ball, The cotton end will cary the scent and no mess all over your hands, boat and equipment. Good luck!
the_hide
No matter how well I keep I try to keep it in the bag it always gets on the outside of the bag, then on my tackle boxes, so on so on. Till its one horrible mess. I forgot to mention when it comes to scents I appear to be clumsy, clumsy, clumsy. I've thought about corn starch/flour myself, I'm also going to give copha a try. alsworms
You might just try mixing a drop or two with some popcorn salt. That works for me without the messes. I think the salt soaks up the scent a little. Another thing is the quality of bag. If you're using a 3 or 4 mil bag, the scent should stay in a lot better. SeminoleFan
Melt some petroleum jelly like vasaline, mix in your scent, when it hardens you have a thick Jelly that will hold your sent. Kinda like MegaStrike. Rick SeminoleFan
the_hide
I might try the vaseline option aswell, I have heaps of vaseline for my plaster molds its fairly cheap. I just wonder how it will affect the scent.
SeminoleFan
Hide, I will not effect the scent at all. Rick SeminoleFan
the_hide
Thanks for all the help people, for anyone who is interested the first real approach I took worked out a treat. I melted Copha ( Palm Oil) ,which is solid at room temperature, in a glass, while it was hot added kickn'bass shad/anise. The Copha turned yellow from the kickn bass and after it cooled I had a perfectly stable paste in a jar that easily spread onto the plastics , stays on beautifully. I did have to heat up the mixture a couple of times to get the right ratio of Kicknbass to copha, heat add a little, test, head add a little test etc.
Senkosam
I use a small bottle with a flip top lid, apply a few drops and smear the stuf with my finger tips. I always keep a towel handy for that and fish slime (especially pickerel b.o.). It's neat and nonwasteful. Sam
