Delw
I thought I would throw this out to you guys. the last 2-3 months I have been drop shotting flies and have been doing pretty good, has anyone else tried this? I saw a post by deadlystreamer and the avatar he has is a fly like I use for dropshotting so thats why I brouth this up. I am basically useing the same fly's I used for steelhead and salmon in washington. (streamers) in olive, red and yellow and some browns. you cant get any better action out of any bait than feathers and hair under water. Give it a try the next few times your out. chirmy
Del, You think you can show a picture of what you are talking about? Do you just tie a fly on the line with a palomar knott? What size hook fly etc... Sounds different and sometimes different is all that is needed.
redg8r
pretty damn interesting, actually. I got a few of Georges deadly streamers & I was floored at how weedless they are. I was pullin em through submerged trees that were nicely decorated with my texas rigged soft plastics I guess the way theyre tied, make a natural weedguard.... go figure. If your usin a weighted streamer, they cast good on a spinning rod, shoot Id skip the dropshot weight & add another streamer on the bottom too. . Id love to be dropshottin, but the water down here rarely gets above 10 feet & I can usually see the bottom for the most part of the year. woodsac
Actually Jerry, I have had some of my best results dropshotting in very shallow water. When doing so in clear water, it's important to use a finesse approach. I only use small lures 2 1/2 to 3 inches. I try and keep the colors as natural as possible (greens and browns). As far as tackle in this situation, I use 6lb clear, #2 Gammie dropshot hooks and I only leave 6"-12" of tag line between the hook and weight. Give it a try when the water starts to cool slightly. A good time is when the jig bite starts to really turn back on.
redg8r
woodsac, you the man, I always took it dropshotting was better in deeper waters. thanks for that, with the way they've been biting lately, I could use a new technique, along with more time on the water
BassnG3
I fish some waters in North Florida and on occasion get down to the Stick Marsh and drop shotting has worked well wherever I fished. Try it in the spring when the fish are on the bed it works well. BassnG3
Delw
heres a pic of what I use Chirmy hook size's range from #12-#4, Lake mead would be the spot to use it, I know a guy using them there on the bigger tournys. I ties it on just like a reg dropshot hook Red. !0 feet of water would be awsum to fish in Woodsac, most of my drop shotting in the spring summer and fall is on the banks and shaking it back to the boat, with big and small worms we used from 2"-10" worms I also dropshot my stiks both wacky and nose hooked. Tubes are great for drop shotting also. But my all time favorite in both deep and shallow clear and dirty water is my 4" straight dropshot worm in see through pink. I kid you not. Hottest color out last year. (at least one of my buddies won a ton of money on it). I like to make them really soft to were the melt in your hand and only nose hook them. Nathan
About 3 years ago I was playing around with some floating fly designs that could be pulled in a carolina rig.I'd developed a salamander, and some shad patterns...I never did much with it,and moved onto other projects.....Now with drop shotting,it really opens up the possibilities..Nathan
Maze
I've done this and had very good results in the past. When I ice fish I do the same basic thing and have a couple of different lures on droppers at the same time. I've had good luck with an ant as one of the lures above the fly. Had one guy tell me that he had good luck doing this under the ice with larger lures than I used and he was targetting and getting Pike. I've got some of George's Deadly Streamers and they are Great no matter how I've fished them. I will have to try drop shotting his since it's been a while since I've done it last. What fish were you after and what and how many did you catch? Thanks for the tip/reminder !!!! Maze
WylieRods
That really sounds to be a great presentation to me and with a streamer I would think all the better! The next tube trip I'll have to remember the rig. Thanks!
docirv
Have any of you tried using a jig in place of the drop shot weight? How did it work for you? Thought I would give this a try? What do you think?

docirv
my latest order from you. Made some more of your stick baits today. Made some junebug with salt and a new color that I have not quite figured out yet. Might have to call it something like "left over color melt together with green, red, silver and gold fleck." Actually came out looking quite good. Going to try them tomorrow. Been using LC 502 plastic. How much softener is needed to make the bait less tough and easier to work with? I am really looking forward to using that calhoun plastic. Anybody have a recipe for blue fleck? Thanks all.
